I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Shave Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #119 brush. I did the two passes with the Schick 66 G and Personna Stainless blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Peach WH and then Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Had a smooth 3 pass shave this afternoon. The MER Shaving Barbershop soap has a nice scent unlike most barbershop type of scents on the market, kind of has some boosy notes with perhaps a Pachouli powder sweet base. The scent got stronger once lathered and the lather quality was very nice, perhaps not as thick as the Duck Sauce but it could be my imagination. Anyways, got a nice shave and finished with GTB and Stirling Mountain Man balm. Hope yall enjoyed your shave!

 

Tonight's shave was with a vintage German Beauty. I had a very smooth, 2 pass shave, that left me near BBS. Zero issues.

Razor- Zwillingswerk(J.A.Henkels) 50 1/2. Solingen Germany.
Brush- Omega 10098 Boar
Soap- Arko/Avon Spicy Scented
Aftershave- Osage Rub

 

SOTN: My inaugural shave using this custom Brian Brown 6/8" French-point with birds eye walnut scales; Stirling 'Coniferous' mentholated tallow soap, custom Jayaruh two-band badger, and Ogallala 'Lime & Peppercorn' bay rum aftershave. Smooth-going overall, despite one little bite from the über-sharp tip.

August 8 - Grand Blade Trials

Tonight begins a four blade trial of Dorco blades. I've used a couple of these before but, by request, I'll be adding the el cheapo Dollar General version in these trials. If I can find a Family Dollar in the next couple of days I'll check theirs as well, but I think they'll be the same since Dollar General bought Family Dollar. Or the other way around. Can't remember. Anyway, head shave first since it's Tuesday and that was interrupted about halfway through when I heard a familiar noise from the basement. Connection between the secondary sump pump and the pipe had come loose so that when the main sump did its thing, which it does a few times an hour due to the water level here, the water flowed straight into the secondary sump, that pump turns on and shoots a geyser all over the basement floor. No damage to anything since it's a wet basement anyway, just a trip downstairs with my head lathered up to reconnect the pipe and call it good.

After the excitement and the head shave completion it was time to go Dorco. I chose the ST-301 to start as it is the "standard" Dorco blade. It's a Platinum blade and I've used it before. Nothing special but.....like the Derby....seems to perform when needed. Tonight was no different. On the mild 3 on the Fatboy it actually produced a near-BBS in two passes and touch ups. I'm tempted to give the credit to the Futur from last night leaving it a slightly lighter beard tonight, but I'll go ahead and give props to the Dorco. Smooth and effective. Can't ask for much more than that. We'll see if it can add some sexiness tomorrow on 6.

Hope your week has been going well so far. My new one starts tomorrow. Here comes Monday/Wednesday in my world.

Holy Black - Gunpowder

First experience with The Holy Black Trading Company. Liked the Gunpowder name of this soap, although the scent is very subtle, so will have to try and detect more of it next shave. Having been to a reenactment of the Siege of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia (1758) between the muskets and cannons of the British and the French – know well what gun powder smells like as the air was full of billowing blue clouds. The soap does however deliver very explosive lather . . .



Obtained another MS 30mm Silvertip as was intrigued by the new colours they put out recently, including a 24mm that looked more butterscotch. After contacting Maseto to see if they could send a 30mm in butterscotch they answered that one was available on their site – however looked more yellow than butterscotch. And after arriving today, it really is yellow – but the knot seems fabulous, a bit lower with whiter tips than their previously acquired Silvertip, so will try out shortly.

Today's shave consisted of my old type (first shave with it) loaded with an Astra SP, my amboyna elite razor silver tip, and a coconut soap from an artisan from Spain. It was PIF'd to me by a member on another board. (Coco by Luna). Really enjoyed the soap scent - somewhere between a true natural coconut and toasted coconut with no hint of smelling perfumey or artificial. Nice!
