Now that you mention it Neale !
I totally forgot to tell that story I only dipped the brush lightly into the tub!
then took out with my finger a tiny but of extra cream id say half a pinky nail full ! really small ! and dang !!! LAther flew everywhere I just couldnt understand what just had happend I lathered up 4 times ! and each pass was as Dense as the previous one talk about Brush loading !

I lather up for a 5th fully only then the lather got thinner but I wasnt shaving anymore cleaning up my stuff and letting the good Lime work its way in my skin.

Amazing stuff, I will cry when Coates run out I hope to have stock for 10 year atleast.

    Saturday AM

    A shave for the Ages:

    Hot shower
Proraso Pre-Post at beginning of shower
Castle Forbes pre-shave at end of shower
    SR 3330 ebony
Feather ACD-N straight w/ Pro Guard blade
    '60 Fatboy w/ Derby blade
    Nancy Boy Signature cream
    WWR
Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve A/S splash
    CWR
CWR (two rinses -- that Special Reserve is some STRONG stuffs!)
Tryphon Mentolo balm + QED Lavender balm + Mama Bear's Lilac/Menthol milk
    SCS Autumn Rain EdT

We got snow again today. Weird weather. I'm constantly amazed at my Savile Row 3330's ability to generate incredible lather. Even with a "brushless" type of cream like Nancy Boy, it whipped up a lather for the Record Book. What a great start to the weekend!!!!

    Proraso white S/S
    Anherb A/S conditioner
    Batsheva cologne (from Israel)

I must excuse myself for whatever bad things I said about this new Proraso soap--it's excellent! Much nicer scent than the green version, a good amount of menthol, and very, very soothing skincare.

Happy Easter from us! ;) :D

    Mmake Mmmine Mmmmenthol!

    Shave performed late Saturday Night...

I've been experimenting so much lately that I have not had a true menthol experience in awhile, so I decided to go all-out-MENTHOL! To put me in the mood, we had some snow this morning here in Pennsylvania.

    > Proraso Pre-Shave Cream
    > Tryphon Permafrost Shave Soap
    > Vintage Ever-Ready 300PBT Brush
    > Vintage Gillette Super Speed (1948-1950, no date code)
    > Vintage PAL Precision Ground blue blade (1950s) (shave #2)
    > Alum Block (not pictured)
    > T.N. Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel (not pictured)
    > Aqua Velva Ice Blue Aftershave
    > Tryphon Mentòlo Aftershave Balm

WOW! Back in "Menthol Heaven" again! :happy102
The chill began as I applied the Proraso Classic pre-shave cream. Then the Tryphon Permafrost soap "kicked it up a notch" as I lathered with the vintage Ever-Ready 300PBT brush! This is an excellent brush, but with a smallish knot and tall loft/big bloom--it doesn't have as much "backbone" as I would like. I am seriously considering the Omega Pure Badger #63171 (a "chubby") which I know Giovanni at Razor & Brush has and LOVES! Here's a shot of the brush and blade from above (let's call it "Blade & Badger" ;)):

The brush held plenty of lather for a 4-pass shave (WTG/XTG/XTG/ATG) with only a brief trip back to the Permafrost tub between the second and third relatherings before those passes. Each relathering gave another intense menthol feeling, and the PAL blade (second use for this one) performed flawlessly in the old-style Super Speed!

No irritation as evidenced by virtually NO STINGING from the alum block. A quick cold-water rinse followed by witch hazel. Another cold-water rinse and then a healthy splash of Aqua Velva!!

After cleaning up the shaving items and putting them away (except for the brush...drying on its base after rinsing/"flicking"/brushing against a dry trowel)...I treated myself to a soothing application of Tryphon Mentòlo Aftershave Balm! Now my face felt s-m-o-o-t-h and refreshed. (love)

As a "Man of Menthol," and while I really enjoy the variety provided by some excellent other scents, I have decided--with reference to the traditional types of brushes, and tongue firmly planted in cheek:

You can take my Bay Rum, and my life would be BOAR-ing...
You can take away my Lime, and I would be more angry than a BADGER...
But if you steal my Menthol, the only SILVERTIP you'd see is from what I’ll use to cut you up into food for our Turkey Vulture, "Hannibal," at our beloved Red Creek Wildlife Center [www.redcreekwildlifecenter.com]:

That shot is from when I had a relatively full beard (now only a moustache and goatee) while conducting a Wildlife Education Program.

Todays fun fact: Human remains are not detectable in Vulture droppings. Strange, but true!
Also of note: We have a rather large freezer for storing food for the wildlife in our care!

    HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!!!

Question for Jeff: does the Erasmic soap have enough menthol for a true "M.O.M.?" I have been thinking of getting one to try some day. Thanks!!!

Morrie, Erasmic soap is delightful, but it has absolutely NO menthol in it whatsoever. It has a wonderful, rich lather, and a beautiful classy, traditional scent, and very soothing skincare, but it's not a mentholated soap.

    NOW I understand!

    Jeff,

Thanks for the clarification about Erasmic...I am not sure where I got the idea it had menthol!

I agree with your take on the Proraso Aloe & Green Tea soap 100%. This is my "go to" soap for the skincare benefits for any shave following a rough one. It's THAT good! ;)
