Friday Night Shave: My second showdown with the OCMM

I feel pretty good about saying that I won round two with the OCMM. I took it real easy with much lighter and shorter strokes than I normally do, giving this razor even more respect than I show the R41. I ended up feeling good enough to take it 3 full passes with a relather and ATG pass under the jaw.

That being said I took a pic after the shave to brag on the lather I got from the Wheat Cream and Vie Long. After I lathered my face 4 times there was plenty left to go another 3 passes easy. (Thanks JoAnna)

I enjoyed the shave earlier in the week using this razor ....so I revisited it today. 3 pass DFS+ and a good start to my only day off over the weekend.

 

Last shave of the week for this razor. Vintage Williams with a home brew menthol additive followed with a small dab of Proraso pre/post shave. Excellent shave.

Pff, one week vacation just means having double the work the week you get home, so I haven't been around on TSD much this week. But the shaving went on, of course. Day 6 for the blade and I think I'm going to finish the week with it tomorrow.
This was a nice mentolated shave with the Iced Lime and Proraso build into a great lather. DFS.

Honestly, this Blix Fresh cream is nothing to get excited about - the lather is the only really good thing about it. I don't care at all for the scent, the menthol effect is so subdued that you can hardly feel it, and the skincare is very much lacking. The Svoboda balsam really helped me after this shave. Sorry, no pictures today!

Just felt going old school today. Its been awhile since I've had a good true wet shave. most of the week I've been using my Gillette fusion.....my neck is begining to become irritated so I went with the fatboy and just planed on a 1 pass but the nice toasty warm MWF just felt so good against my sore neck, and the fatboy was just so smooth I just had to go for another and then another.
just a fantastic great feeling and smelling shave.

 

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

This frankenrazor combo has been used almost every day for the last couple weeks. It's made up of a Weber handle which gives the razor some nice weight, and the Stahly head. This handle seems well made with better than average knurling, and is a good value at $20. It's a long one though, and that took me a few shaves to get used to.

This particular vintage blade is good, but not up to some others in the rotation. Still, it provided me a very nice shave and I'll probably use it a couple more times before tossing it.

The bay rum AS is made by a buddy of mine and is one of the tastier ones around. Made with dark rum as the base, which is a nice touch. Kramperts Bay Rum uses a similar base and it's also a very nicely scented product.

I had forgotten how heavy a Strat was hense the 2 Aleve This mornings shave was another winner with the OCMM.This time I tried a Gem SS coated blade for the first time.It was a lil rough then I looked and saw it wasn't aligned quite right,then it was smooth sailing.I did one pass ATG with the dome and 2 WTG,1 ATG,on my face and neck,BBS all around.I finished off with The Veg 'nuff said

BBS!

I decided to take a break from Mystic Water SS for a bit and start working on some of my other samples. First up was Almond, since it's probably my least favorite scent in the T&H selection I received. I squeezed the packet into a small pill container so I could visually see how much was in there. there should be enough for 3 shaves, easy.

I wasn't sure about how to go about face lathering with the little sample so I used a collar stay to scoop about a third of it up and put it directly on my wet brush, then proceed to lather. It worked very well and after a couple of water additions, I soon had a fantastic lather going with plenty more than I needed.

Either I got a mild case of razor burn, all over, or I something in the cream irritated my face. I tend to think it was the latter since when I put the ASB, my face lit up on fire to a greater degree, and for a longer time, than normal. Usually I get a brief burning sensation and then all irritation is gone. This time I'm still feeling it to some degree, an hour later. Tomorrow I'll test it on my wrist to see if I get any irritation.

In the end, I got a fantastic BBS shave!
