    Friday

Didn't get around to posting Thursday's shave ... it was my typical setup with MWF, Merkur 23c. I did change out the blade though. Kai Stainless went in, Astra SP came out. The Astra SP doesn't last more than a few shaves for me.

    On to Friday ...

Pre (Eucerin Moisturizing cream, warm shower)
    Omega 10083 Pro boar
    Gold Dachs Spezial SS
    Merkur 23c w/ Kai Stainless
Post (Cetaphil gentle cleanser, cold water rinse)
    Master Bay Rum

Gratifying two pass DFS+! Quite close. No premature five o'clock shadow for me today.

    Friday

Prep: Hot shower, AoS pre-shave oil
    CD: Road Trippin' Blues
Coffee: Home roasted, fresh ground Malawi Mapanga AA, BLACK
Soap: Daisy Mountain Naturals Sandalwood + 3 drops M Bomb + 2 drops Em's Woodstock EO*
    Brush: C&E Pure Badger
    Razor: '55 Blue Tip
Blade: Astra SP, day 5, 3 passes
Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, L'Oreal Comfort Max ASB, Sean John Unforgivable
    'Stache Wax: Steve's Own

*Almost no scent what so ever with this soap. Em's EO took care of that. The soap lathered up and performed well enough, but I like a soap with a stronger scent.

Face Wash: Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash
    Pre-Shave Lather: None
    Pre-Shave: None
    Shave Lather: Arko Cool SC
    Razor: Gillette Old Type
    Blade: Rapira Swedish Supersteel (2)
    Brush: Semogue 1305
Post: Witch Hazel/Vodka/Aloe/Glycerin mixture followed by Avon Black Suede Leather ASB

First time using either the Arko Cool SC or the Avon ASB.

The Arko SC worked fine but didn't wow me but for the price it's a great product. I have quite a few soaps and creams I've not used yet and I'm trying to get through them all, using each 3 times in a row, but this may only be used twice before putting it back. I'm paring down my rotation to about 1/4 of what I have and since this has parabens, I'll put this up to use in a couple of year.

Avon recently had a free shipping promo along with a special on their ASBs, or After Shave Conditioners as they call them. I bought four tubes, Mesmerize, Black Suede and two tubes of Black Suede Leather. After just one use I can't come to any conclusion, so I'll continue to use them for a while and see how I like them.

The Black Suede kind of smells like you would expect Avon to smell like, which is not very descriptive, and I'm not crazy about it. The Mesmerize is in the same vein as Aqua di Gio. it doesn't smell the same, but I'd say it's the same type of scent. The Black Suede Leather is the best scent of the three, but I'd have to use it again to tell you how it smells.

After a 5 day wait, I finally shaved today. I did a cold water shave, I have found that cold water helps me best.

Pre shave: Proraso Pre/Post Cream while I took a shower, reapplied when I got out.
Razor: 40's Super Speed (I really do like that razor.)
    Blade: Red IP (first use.)
    Brush: Semogue 1305.
    Soap: TSD Lanolin English Fern.
Post: Cold water rinse, alum block, cold water rinse, Thayer's Witch Hazel Rose Petal, Shaveworks Cool Fix Aftershave.

Well, this was my second time using the English Fern. I didn't feel a burning tingly sensation til I got done with my first pass. It was the same as the last time, but I didn't get any irritation. I just hope it stays that way, because I really like how this soap smells. My face was still recovering from my Feather Folly, but I really needed a shave, that's another thing for me to consider if the shave turned out to be not so good.

    Razor : Parker 33R
    Blade : Polsilver (3)
    Soap : Barbus
Brush : Unknown Wood Handle Badger Tambootie wood horse hair (fooled me)
ASS : Boosters Polar Ice & Osage Rub
    ASB : CBT Nomad

2 Pass DFS. Really liking the Barbus soap no effort to lather great smell I think I under rated the skin care as my face was feeling well moisturized even before the ASB.

The little knot the wood handled brush was everything I hoped. Slightly scritchy but soft when full of later. I had useable lather on the brush after about 10 passes on the soap. There was enough in the brush for my 2 passes and more. I am positive this brush would be great for those that shave in a hurry the small capacity knot leads to a faster developing later.

2 more brushes to go then I am on to the next soap until next time.

I have not really been on much the past few days. So here is today's shave

    Soap: Daisy Mountain Naturals
    Blade: Astra
    Brush: The Body Shop
    Razor: Parker 22R

The 2 day growth gave the astra a workout today. But finished up with a nice 2 pass + touch up BBS. :)

Showed a bit of love for the iKon S3S today. It is very nice. You get a good shave and an upper body workout at the same time! :) This razor is very heavy. At about 130 grams, it is over 1.5 times as heavy as the Merkur 34C HD!! I had a quick look at the iKon website and I noticed that this model has been discontinued which is too bad. The Frank Shaving brush is a new model. It is the Richmond style handle with silvertip hairs in a fan-shaped 22mm knot. The fan-shaped brush is my favorite so I was very happy to be able to get an inexpensive silvertip in this style. ($38) That said, I don't perceive a huge difference between this brush and the lower priced fan in finest badger. ($22) Bit of an odd smell to today's shave with wonderful top notes of citrus and eucalyptus and a strong base note of stinky badger. :lyrtuy5: The fine iKon razor and wonderful Proraso products had no trouble delivering a very close and comfortable BBS shave.

Have a great weekend! Cheers, Lyndon

Have only managed two shaves so far this week.
Both using a Personna Lab blade (pretty good),
Muhle Silvertip (annoying brush) and a Frank Shaving brush (wonderful brush).
TBS Maca Root cream (Excellent cream) and Erasmic Cream (very cheap, but also an excellent performer)
The Merkur HD Razor (Wonderful razor)
And various Aftershave products that I do not remember. But it was probably Proraso on both occasions (love that Proraso stuff)

    Thursday:
DVH boar brush & QED Wild Rose soap
    Valet Autostrop & Feather blade
    3-pass shave
    DFS++

    Friday:
DVH boar brush & DVH soap
Gillette Old Style OC & Shark blade
    3-pass shave
    DFS

    Saturday, Rolls time!

I started the day with leisurely honing & stropping all three blades. 32 laps on the hone and 64 on the strop for each blade. (didn't get any remarks on the noise today! :) ). Then to the bathroom for a leisure saturday morning shave.
    • Prep: hot washing cloth
    • Music: The Sammy Rymington Band
    • Brush: Wilkinson Sword badger
    • Cream: DVH
    • Razor: Rolls (Dûh! :p )
    • Shave: 3-pass + touch-up
    • Post: hot water rinse, cold water rinse
    SoS 2012-10-20.jpg
An astounding shave! The DVH cream lathered up quickly into a soft, cushioning and creamy lather. The blade was quite a bit sharper and gave a noticably more comfortable and smoother shave. Need I say I obtained a BBS? Sure I've never before told I love this razor? Ah, but I do!

Have a great weekend all! :happy069:

I'm really loving my Turkish horsehair brush because it does a fantastic job of lathering up any cream or soap that I use. The Russian version of Viking Fresh cream blows the original Bulgarian version out of the water - it smells so much nicer, it lathers like a maniac, and it has a stronger cooling effect. Talking of cooling effects, the Svoboda balsam and the Alt Innsbruck are 2 of the nicest face-freezers around! ;) :D
