    Sunday Evening:

OK, after a 7.5 hour drive home from my folks place, & with 3 days growth, I was ready for a shave. I was pondering on the way home which one of the razors dad has passed onto me I was going to use. There is several razors there that I will try, alot that are in no condition to try, & some that I don't want to try. Either ways I have a great little display cabinet that will be part of the den soon enough.

I achieved what I believe to be my first BBS

Pre Shave: Hot shower / Proraso Pre SC
Shave Cream: Proraso Red (Sandalwood & Shea Butter)
Shave Brush: Men's Biz Super Badger
Shave Bowl: WCS big bowl (thanks Lyndon)
Razor: 1934 Gillette German No88 Set (2 Piece)
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse / Nivea Post SC

3 passes for a BBS with the tiniest of nicks.

I cleaned the razor with hot soapy water this evening & removed alot of the grime, it will need some 'Mr Muscle' cleaner or similar which I will pick up this week. It's in great condition & while not in showroom condition there is no complaints here. It didn't come in a Bakerlite tin as I had read, it has come to me in an older King Gillette steel tin with 2 blade holders. After questioning dad he does not recall where he picked it up from.

The shave was 'direct' & easier than I thought a rake would be. I was very cautious at first, then got into the shave & enjoyed it immensely. This combination will be used again.

Where ever you are, enjoy what's left of your Sunday.

The pic isn't 100% accurate, at the last moment I decided on the H.I.S. brush that Gary PIF'd me. I'm a stick in the mud traditionalist (badger and boar) but this is a great brush. It fits my style of lathering to a tee. I picked up this razor a couple of months ago at a local antique store mainly because of the etching. It's fairly crudely made but it was a Sheffield. Last night I put 3 layers of tape on the spine and honed it up. This morning I had an excellent shave with it. Gotta love that Sheffield steel. These old wedges can be dynamite shavers. My Dad use to tease me when I first started shaving and told me I didn't need a razor "just put milk on your face and have the cat lick the whiskers off". That's a pretty good description of how a sharp wedge shaves, almost no feedback and the whiskers are just gone. I have 3 or 4 wedges and a few framebacks, I need to use them more, they're great shavers. Have a good one. Sever is down, I'll post the pic later.

    soak brush/Semogue SOC 2 band/DB Brush Scuttle
    hot shower
    Proraso PrePost Cream
    Arko Shave Stick
Cobra Classic "The Snake"/Feather ProGuard (14)

Wonderful BBS face and dome,Feather ProGuard is still going strong looks like at least a few more shaves left. The Kai Captain Mild lasted 15 and started to show it's age at 13 shaves,so far the Feather is still sharp and smooth.

    Blade - Astra S/P
    Brush - Duke 3
    Soap – Mike's Unscented

I was beginning to find the 'Somerset' D3 Best a little too scritchy and uncomfortable, but Mike's Unscented manages to cushion it out really well, yes it really is that good!!... Another BBS shave!! [IMG]

Not even a professional barber with 50 years of experience could have given me a better shave than this - I think I did it absolutely perfectly this morning. 2 hot towels, a good long face massage, then I splashed some more hot water on my face, then I started the lathering process. The Agressia Fresh cream from Bulgaria was sent to me by my man Dmitry. This cream smells classy and nice, what a lather it gives, and the post-shave feeling is great. The only thing I cannot understand is, menthol is listed as an ingredient but it's undetectable either during or after the shave. I love the Hega aftershave so much - not so much for the scent, (it's almost unscented) but for the great skincare it gives. ;) :D

    Have a great Sunday! :)

A great hot shower to start this beautiful fall day. While showering the Parker "King" badger was warming it's bristles, in anticipation of the task ahead. Facial prep today was once again from Prairie Creations pre-shave soap. Decided to use a soap from France, PRE` de Provance, shea butter enriched. The Parker effortlessly worked up a frenzy of lather.
Today was razor and blade change over. This week's razor will a Gillette Super Adjustable, for the next four days it is paired with a Voshkod blade. I dialed the Super up to six for the first two passes, the last pass dialed down to four. I just let the razor effortlessly do the shave, I was rewarded with a nearly prefect DFS.
Afterwards a warm water rinse, cold water splashes, no alum, a generous splash of Kramperts.

I hope the week ahead for everyone starts great and finishes even greater.

Thanks Lyndon. I was elated at the result the razor gave me. I was rubbing my face after the second pass thinking "this is smoother than usual" :D

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Sunday October 21, 2012[IMG]
    • Prep: Brush soaking in cold water, One with Nature Dead Sea Salt Olive Oil Soap, luke warm shower
    • Razor: 1945 Shavety First Shake Sharp Razor
    • Blade: NOS 1961 Gillette Super Blue Blade (9)
    • Brush: Semogue 620 Boar
    • Cream: Mystic Men Menthol
    • AS: Brut Original
    • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave
Day number nine with the Shavety First Shake Sharp and the Super Blue blades that is on tour from Ryan (PLANofMAN).

Another great shave, but I think today shall be my last shave with it. I want to use my Progress tomorrow for Merkur/Menthol Monday. I may use it Tuesday just to try a a different blade, but by Wednesday I would like to send it off to the next person participating in the tour to ensure that that have it by the weekend.

Today's routine has been much like the rest. I shook the razor about 8 times, flipped the blade, did some more shaking, then shaved.

If we remove the novelty of the shaking hone, which in my opinion does work with carbon blades, it is still by all counts a great razor. Right about in the middle of the aggressive scale and a great size and weight for buffing.
