    Neolithium I am Canadian, eh

First. Welcome to all the new members that I haven't had time to say that to!

    Wednesday
    Merkur 38C
    Voskhod
    Semogue 1520
    MWF
    Pinaud Clubman Classic

This morning was a revisit, I've been ignoring my 38C a long while just preferring shorter handled razors. While I used to not like it very much it gave me one of the best shaves I've ever had and the longer handle felt quite comfortable as well. Makes me really consider trading my 37C in for a 39C so I have a matching pair of Merkur barber poles.

A solid DFS+ despite the fact I did not use any preshave, except the hot water splashes and regular soap bar. My last honing session was successful for 2 of my razors. I still need some work on my wedge and Vostok razors.

    • Prep PSC
    • Home-made shaving stick (Colonel Conk - Bay Rum)
    • FS Finest Brush (fan shaped)
    • FS Razor Handle with Muhle Head
    • Astra Stainless Blade (1)
    • Vifrex ASG
    • Barbon ASL
Well, I don't think the LaToja empire will be threatened by my humble "soap artisan" creation. The Colonel Conk didn't really produce as good a lather as LaToja but still, it was pretty good. My skin was a bit dried out from the 14 hour flight to HKG so I didn't really push it today. Nice three pass DFS+ shave. The Barbon ASL from Hungary is quite nice. It was very soothing and didn't really burn at all. The menthol seems to be quite mild and the scent doesn't really last too long. This ASL won't clash with your cologne. Cheers, Lyndon

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Thursday October 25, 2012
    [IMG]
    • Prep: Brush soaking in cold water, One with Nature Dead Sea Salt Olive Oil Soap, tepid warm shower
    • Razor: Gillette NEW Short Comb mounted to T3 Handle
    • Blade: Polsilver SI
    • Brush: Custom TGN 21mm Silvertip Badger
    • Cream: SuperMax 3 Ultimate Protection
    • AS: Brut Attitude
    • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave
Going through my shaving journals I noticed that I had never used a Polsilver SI in the NEW SC, so I thought today was as good of a day as any.

I wanted to make sure I had a since slick lather and the SuperMax 3 provides one of the best lathers I have found. It is too bad that it can no longer be found on this side of the pond, as it is an outstanding cream that explodes into a thick and luxurious lather.

The TGN knot is very soft, but if I was to have another brush made I would want the the knot set a little deeper and a smaller handle. I had purchased this brush as my wife's primary brush, she likes it, so that is all that really matters.

Three passes and some light buffing provided close enough to a BBS.

My name is Graeme and I'm a very naughty boy for not posting my shaves for so long!

    Anyhoo:

Jagger razor head mounted on JEC custom stainless handle
    Gillette yellow + single shim
    Jagger super badger brush medium
    Trumper's coconut soap
    Barbershop Bay Rum
    Astral cream
    TOBS Victorian limes cologne

Not bad today, could have done with a little closer on parts of my neck but if that's the trade off for no irritation until my technique is totally sorted then its still better than a Mach 3 shave! New brush arrived today but too late for shaving with so I'm looking forward to giving it a right old test lathering and workout tomorrow. A vintage Rooney butterscotch re-knotted with a 24mm TGN finest two band knot coutesy of Bill jack at Le Tuft Brushes:

Here the new brush together with a picture of the JEC handle (hand made in Scotland ;)) fixed to the Jagger head:

And a shaving brush handle that I hand carved from Ash. I made this with 3 tools: old saw to cut the bough, small axe to split the wood and carve most of the waste wood away and a wee knife to finish. No sandpaper was used because if you use a very sharp knife and a bit of technique, you can leave a really nice smooth & shiny natural finish on the piece without any blemishes or rough spots. It's easier to grab the sandpaper to 'rub out' your mistakes but I like this more traditional method better:

I love the way you can just copy and paste your pictures on TSD - much better than anywhere else!

    Thursday:

TSD ISZ Preshave Balm 30 minute marinade
soak brush/Semogue SOC Boar/DB Brush Scuttle
    hot shower
Musgo Real Lime Oil Glyce Soap
Mama Bear's Ye Olde Barbershoppe Shave Stick
Weber DLC Classic/Rapira Super Stainless (2)
    warm water rinse
    Monster Block Alum
    warm water rinse
    Thayer's Lemon WH
Bootlegger's Bay Rum mixed with a small amount of 444

Great shave,2 pass face,1 pass head,no touch-ups required for BBS all around.I got the recipe for Bootlegger's from another forum,it's just 1 part Pinaud,1 part Master and 1 part Superior 70,I added a dash of Captain Smith Bay Rum.It really does bring out the best qualities of all those BR's,it smells great but like most BR it fades rather quick.

    Merkur 34c w/ Voshkod
    C&E Nomad Soap and ASB
I don't know what it is with the Voshkods but it seems like they get better with each shave. 3 pass BBS and no irritation with only a minimal sting from the alum. As always the C&E stuff works wonders for me and the GF loves the smell.
