ArkoValo? A GEM of a shave!

    Late Sunday Night, BEFORE Showering:

    > Softsoap Spa Radiant Moisture Wrap with Ylang Ylang Essential Oil pre-wash
    > Valobra Almond soap and Arko Regular cream: "ArkoValo?" ;) Superlather in makeshift scuttle
    > Benwell of London badger/horn brush (pretty worn out) :(
    > GEM Junior gold razor with lather catcher basket and flip top
    > Vintage PAL "Precision Ground" blue SE blade, American Safety Razor Co. "New York 17, N.Y." (1950s?)
    > WTG/XTG/XTG + touch-up with Tech and TREET Blue Special
    > Alum block, witch hazel, my own "chilled brew" aftershave gel (refrigerated)

Shaving before the shower is working VERY well for me, and my face feels less dry and very soft indeed.

EXCELLENT, irritation-free shave with this "oldie but goodie!" Since you must keep the razor's top plate pretty flat against your face, shaving around sideburns, moustache and goatee need help from another razor like the Tech--or you won't see where you are shaving!

For those who have not yet tried a Single-Edge, it is an interesting experience...probably as close to using a straight razor as you can get without actually using one! Skin-stretching and slow, deliberate strokes are highly recommended!

The alum block revealed NO irritation, and I'm as close to BBS as I usually get with any other razor. The Valobra and Arko complement each other nicely in a superlather, with the Arko cream adding slickness to the Valobra's cushion. Since I was off to bed, I felt no need for any scented products tonight.

Have a wonderful week, fellow shaving enthusiasts!

    Monday 9/22 . . .

    • [*]Prep: Rite Aid Cleansing Skin Cream & Hot Towel
      [*]Brush: C&E BBB
      [*]Soap: The "FAT"
[*]Razor: '40 Gillette Regent Tech for face & Braun 7526 electric for head
[*]Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (shave 1)
[*]Oil Pass: Leisureguy's Last-Pass Shave Oil
[*]A/S: Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel Toner
      [*]EDT: Stetson Sierra

[*]Result: Super smooth shave today. Back to the Gillettes after 5 days with the GEMS. Can't say that I am really glad to be back to the DE razors as I am getting good shaves with the GEMs these days as well. But the Regent Tech coupled with the Sharp Edge did it's job very well. Only one problem. The smell of the "FAT". I smell like a raw potato before I used the EDT. Come on what gives with that? Easy lathering and great slick lather but the smell is horrendous.

    Monday AM:

Back to the morning shaves for a while...

Gillette 40 something SuperSpeed w/Treet Blue Special
    Kent Bk4
    T&H 1805
Mama Bear's Peppermint Summer Aftershave Milk
    Max Refreshing Aftershave

The Treet works much better in the Super Speed than it did in the Tech.

    Tuesday:

    Omega Silvertip
    Lord Super/new Sharp
    Lord Emofresh S/C
    Lubriderm unscented moisturizer
    Arko Aqua A/S gel
    Acqua di Selva cologne

a great Egyptian-style shave today--this Lord razor and Emofresh cream are excellent. The razor is between aggressive and mild, but no cuts or nicks. The Emofresh cream smells very, very nice, and has a multitude of lather, lots of skincare, and also some menthol--koulshi azim! (Arabic for everything's terrific!) ;) :D
