Don't you just love soup? What soups do you make and/or enjoy? I made Meatball Soup last night. Some other soups/stews I make; Japanese Curry Brunswick Stew Chicken Pepper Jack Soup Creole Black Bean Soup Ham Chowder
My "specialties"... Chicken tortellini soup with a touch of curry Italian stew (basically the same as your regular Irish stew) Beef barley soup I usually make my broth from scratch.
Great timing! I just sat down with a bowl of chaz-made minestrone. Previous to this, I also enjoyed my beef, barley and mushroom soup. My all-time favorite soup is split pea. Gayle made it just the way I like it. That’s next up on my soup menu planning. Other similar dishes I find easy to make and taste good too are, chicken stew, beef stew and chili. Being that I am now fending for myself, and have never been cheferly inclined, I like preparing meals that are best enjoyed in a bowl. Plus, it makes cleanup much simpler. Working in the kitchen has always been a drag for me. I don’t enjoy menu planning, shopping for ingredients or the actual food prep. However, it’s a necessary evil if I want to eat. I won’t go to a restaurant solo, frozen processed meals are too salty, and fresh prepared meals delivered to the house get to be boring all the time no matter how good the food quality is. So, I cook. But only by default.
I have a whole lot of tabs open now, looking for recipes for all these soups you guys have named. One of my favorite things about cruising is all the different soups they offer. And I don't believe in soup season. Every season is soup season.
We love soups year-round too. Some of our favorites are: Hearty ham and collard stew Pinto bean soup Vegetable beef noodle soup Vegetable soup Chicken noodle soup Taco soup Potato soup Chili (beef, turkey or chicken) We don't make Hot and Sour or Wonton soups, but we have those every time we go out for Chinese food. We discovered cold soups on a cruise many years ago, and I'm a fan of those too. A real treat is to pair a bowl of soup with fresh homemade corn bread or sourdough bread and sliced cheese.
I frequent a grocery store that has a large hot soup bar. I usually pick up two or three every time I visit. Yesterday I came home with clam chowder and gumbolaya. Last week it was artichoke chicken and haddock chowder.
Becky made a delicious beef stew last night. She also makes black bean soup, chicken and dumplings, and hamburger soup - all delicious. It's a wonder I don't weigh 300 pounds! Ever notice how soups and stews taste better the second day?
I forgot Coq Au Vin (or Winey Chicken). I started making that recently, and now have a request for Beef Bourguignon (Winey Cow). I just realized there were no cold soups on my last cruise. Guess that tells you how much they mean to me. Carnival used to have a potato and leek that I loved. I can not remember the last time I saw a grocery store soup bar.
