Starting a new year with my first DE shave

I am starting the new year off right. I had posted for blade opinions on another thread and took the advice given. My 9 y.o. son was interested in watching me shave with this "old stuff". I truly think he just wanted to see if I would cut myself.

With brahm playing on the ipod, I drew the water and prepped my face with a hot cloth in nervous anticpation. My T&H lather was attempt was ok, but not luxurious and thick. The new badger brush was a little stiff, but will soften with time. My DE89L was loaded with a personna blade and touched to the skin. A trepid short stroke was made with the scratching tick tick tick as it cut through the 2 days of growth. I consciously had to keep telling myself not to push down. Maintaining the blade angle was a little difficult especially when going to left side. I had made my first pass WTG and rinsed with hot water and lathered up again. My son watched with a puzzled look while starting my second pass WTG as I normally would not do this using my cartridge razor. Afterward, rinsed with cold water and placed some T&H balm, followed by some bay rum. My son also enjoyed putting on some of the balm and aftershave. He promptly ran out to mom so that she could enjoy his new scent.

Overall an ok shave with a priceless experience. Having my son there watching and talking with me made the experience one to remember. Now I am looking forward to tomorrow and another shave.

Very cool! What a great experience for you and your son as well. You will have many more great shaves as you continue your journey, I'm sure.

+1 on the above statements. Bonding with your son while shaving is a great thing. One of the highlights of 2010 for me wash teaching my son to shave with a DE - He loves it!

I'd imagine having a son would make that really special. My daughter (who is very special in her own ways) simply likes all the scents.

Yep, daughters are a good precurser to what SWMBO may like. If daughter plugs her nose, then it's time to rinse and try another.

Great work, the shaves will only get better each day. Like you my young sons are fascinated with shaving. I don't ever remember watching my dad shave.

What a great story! I remember teaching my son to shave. Congrats on using the DE razor, one of these days I'll have the courage to give it a try.
