Ok so here in UK you cannot buy isopropyl unless off Amazon Would anyone know if surgical spirt would be a good alternative?? Thanks for looking and any advice Tim
Assuming you are cleaning a vintage DE razor? The common procedure is to give it a scrub with a tooth brush and dish washing detergent. If you want to go to an alcohol dip/soak, higher percentage alcohol content is more effective. No reason you couldn't use Ever Clear grain alcohol, or vodka. "Isopropyl" is comparable to British Pharmacopoeia defined "surgical spirits" if that's readily available. Another American product you may have available - Barbicide
Is that because it's against the law? Or some other reason? For what it's worth, isopropyl here in the US is also called "rubbing alcohol." Do you have anything called that in the UK?
yeah it's against the law ! but you can buy it on amazon??? I think I'll just get some of line thanks all
If it's a vintage razor just use a bathroom/kitchen cleaner that kills germs and viruses. Or you could put it in a stovetop vegetable steamer and sanitize it that way. Clayton Sent from my SM-A705U using Tapatalk
Seeing that causes me to think about Lysol. Is that not an old-time disinfectant? Has anyone ever used that? It comes in a wide range of formulations, but here is a picture of what the old original looks like.
I use it in a spray bottle mixed with water. The concentrate makes 9 gallons. Clayton Sent from my SM-A705U using Tapatalk
Barbicide all the way...I paid about £9 I think for a half litre, it is the PROPER stuff and can sterilize all your razors in as little as 10 mins, it lasts for ages and I do buy a lot of razors and they all get soaked in a solution, no waiting on kettles...just hot water from the tap and depending what size of container you need dilute to suit, I mostly use a pint tumbler (uk) from the pub with one capful of barbicide , let it soak for 10 mins or overnight or whatever time you like...10 mins is recommended. Ebay right now for £7 or £8.
