My first 2 DE shaves went very well, then I tried something new on day 3. I switched from cream to soap and didn't do a very good job getting the lather built up. I ended up with some razor burn on my chin and neck. I was still a bit raw today, so I took today off. I already need a shave, so by tomorrow I should be good to go! I would like to try the soap again just to get some more practice in. Also, soaps offer a lot of variety once you learn how to use them. I'm eager to try out some of the various scents! The education continues!
As usual, YMMV, but I find that creams are easier to lather. Of course, I'm using Kiss My Face and that stuff is near-foolproof. Just keep at it, but try to only change one variable at a time so you know what works and what doesn't.
In the past when I felt as though I had gotten less than a stellar shave from a soap it is because I had too much water in the mix. As time goes on, you will get better at whipping up your soaps. I have found that what works best for me is to store all of my soaps in separate cups and use a scuttle or bowl for whipping up the later. While my brush is soaking, I also put hot water on top of the soap to soften it a little. Then I shake nearly all the water out of my brush, dump the water out of the cup and then stir / crush my brush into the soap and get it loaded pretty full, then take the brush to the scuttle and adding a few drops of water at a time I swirl and pump the brush until the large bubbles pop and the sound of the lather changes from a "fluffy" sound to a "sticky" sound and the lather resembles whipped cream or meringue topping. If for some reason the lather does not look like whipped topping, or it does not feel slippery between my fingers, I will put one shot of Kiss My Face unscented cream in the mix and that fixes it right up.
Back at it today After letting my face recover yesterday, I put in a new Astra Platinum blade and went back to my Bigelow cream today. I got a great shave with no burn at all. I'm new at this, but my face feels pretty darn smooth right now.
Way to go :happy088 Shaving should be fun and a joy to do! Not a pain in the butt, otherwise you could stick to the canned goo and the multiblade moneyburners If your face needs to recover, by all means take that time and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy......
