The only non-mentholated Stirling soap I ever used and I absolutely love it! Ease of lathering: 9/10--Work that arm and load that brush and the lather will come up nicely! Longevity of lather: 9/10--Stability is really good. It never dissipates when it's on your beard. General skincare: 10/10--Very moisturizing and comfortable. Great post-shave feeling. Scent: 10/10--Ah, that's what gets me. It's so old-school and beautiful. Real old-time barbershop scent. Price: 10/10--You just can't beat Rod's prices because they're so affordable. Would I buy again: 10/10--Most definitely I would because I love this soap. Up until now I've used only the strongly-mentholated Stirling soaps and the off-the-charts intensely mentholated Stirling Glacial ones so I wanted to try something un-mentholated, and one thing I'll say is this Barbershop soap is 100% class as well as top-quality. Even though it does require some extra lathering effort, it's well-worth it and you'll get rich, slick lather with a wonderful, traditional, old-school scent which will remind you of going to an old-time barbershop when you were a kid. Rod is a soap genius as well as a wonderful guy!
Fantastic review. Guys, this guy knows what he's talking about. I learned most of what I know from him...
Thanks, my dear friend. You don't realize this, but you've taught me a lot about wetshaving as well. Had it not been for you I don't think I would have ever have tried Rod's soaps.
Great review Jeff! I think Rod change his formula a little, I noticed a difference with Executive Man. For the good. I've yet to use a soap that is as slick as Stirling Soaps, Cold River is right behind Stirling in slickness IMO. Superb post shave skincare! Price! Thanks for taking the time to write this review! Kerry
Thanks, my friend. I did the best I could to review the soap accurately, although I think I might have missed a point or two.
Man oh man am I glad to see this. I didn't change the formula, but we changed suppliers on a few ingredients. We had some complaints that some customers could smell an "animal" scent on our soaps, so I switched suppliers on the non-veggie ingredients. To me (and to Mandy) it made a huge difference in not only the base scent of the soap, but it also improved the quality of the lather and the ease with which it could be built. I'm really hoping everyone else sees the same difference you did.
Rod, I have something to say. Whoever says there is an "animal" scent on your soaps is a "Baiekh" or a "Homar" and I'm sure you understand what I said. Habibi, to myself as well as so many other guys your soaps are precious treasures.
I was thinking about adding this to my next Stirling order. Can someone give a more detailed description of the scent than just "barbershop"? My main concern is that some of the old time scents contain tobacco notes, which is a huge no go for me. Leather, Clubman, powder and slightly stanky old man are all ok if there were no ashtrays in this particular establishment PS. Hi Rod, just noticed you check in. Still love your soaps and spread some of your samples around during our current pass around box!
I could pick up some of animal scents others did but i didn't find it to be off putting. I received a sample of san Antonio and i couldn't smell it at all. Are you going to be bringing back coconut, lavender, or coconut lime?
I've noticed the change! Executive Man is much easier to lather, the quality and value is still top notch!
I've been using a sample of the barbershop for a while. I wish I would have ordered more when I placed my last order, but I always want something new when I order from Stirling. Someday, I will force myself to be disciplined and order a puck. Rod did send a sample of Glacial wintergreen as well as a free full bath bar of Glacial wintergreen with my last order, which will be my first use of Glacial when I get to them.
I love this review! Would you say the scent is similar to Clubman? I have to say, Stirling products are definitely my favorites!
Not really. Clubman has other notes besides the powder. This is like 100 percent barbershop talc imo. He does make a Clubman scent soap however.
