Storing your staights

Discussion in 'Straight Razors' started by Cutthroat_trout, Jun 23, 2008.

  1. As I collect more staights the issue is starting to arise as to where and how to store. What are you doing ? Custom boxes, drawers, display cabinets ? Do you use original box or put it away unused to preserve it's original condition ?

Good question, Lee. I personally use a small Sterilite bin with three stacking drawers.

    Sort of like this:

I can get about six straights in each drawer, and you can stack the units, too.

Drawer in the bathroom where my son can easily reach them.

And the worst parent in the world award goes too.

Just kidding they are safety locked.

I use a couple pen cases that work well, that I found at Michael's Craft Store.

Since your on the subject tho I did a quick search on the WWW and came up with this http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/Pen_Boxes_2.htm
the acrilic stands look cool and the case looks look like it would hold the razors well.

Beautiful cases. I might have to pick one up when the exchange rate gets better.

I have all my shaving straights in one of those lockable metal cash boxes - it can hold about 30 razors in their coffins as long as you're good at tetris. :D

I used to have them loose in my top drawer, but an incident involving a curious cleaner, my best razor, and my new strop put an end to that.

An incident?? and you leave it at that  tabloid minds want to know :D

Actually, locking them up is a good point. If those cases that Martin sells can lock, it would be a real plus.

We had a guy come in and clean our house last year (wife and I were both busy at work). He found my straights in the top draw of the bathroom vanity (probably saw my strop on the towel rack...).

Anyway, long story made short - he managed to find my best razor from the 30 or so that were in the drawer (my Friodur that had taken me *hours* to hone), and used it on my brand new strop I'd just bought the week before.

I got home to find my new strop cut and nicked, and my Friodur's edge completely wiped off - he must have stropped the way he'd seen in the movies or something.

I was a bit cross. So, next day I went out and bought a lockable metal box. I keep one key on my person at all times (on a chain attached to my nipple ring), and the other in a safe deposit box in my Swiss bank...:D.

I keep my rotation ones in a mug on the back of the basin, I live on my own so no problem there as for the others I keep them in there box's in a draw in the bedroom but I may invest in one of those cases so I can disply them and drool :D

I've been a 1911 guy for lots of years, but I just got a S&W M&P 45, and it is AWESOME! Great shooter!

Kimber Gold Combat (series I) myself, but back to the subject.

I have kept but five razors. Three are in a custom box I purchased from Bill Ellis' website, two are in the Livi regrind box (bigger than needed for one razor). They are kept in my sock drawer as we have no little ones any longer.

My wife got this for me. It holds about 20-25 razors and it doesn't mess up her decor!

those acrylic stands look sweet. Now I need to buy more straights... Unfortunately I think I need to find a more secure way to store them. Mini-Me will be crawling in no time.

  20. I used to have a S&W 1076 from Smith's custom shop. Now that was a great shooter but I had to give it up but not without great pains

Storage remarks and photos have been great !
