I've seen some straight razors that use a replaceable blade. Are these any good and is it hard to find the blades for them?
    Thanks:)

JayKay 3000 posts and all I got was this lousy title

There are many different brands. Some used DE blades snapped in half. Others have their own brand. Feather makes some great ones and use their own brand blades.

I have a dovo shavette that works well for me. Depending on which blade holder you get you can use DE blades snapped in half.. or long disposible blades.. or the feather blades that Jay Kay was talking about. I like the thing.

I was under the impression that it will not hold the feather blades, but will accept Fromm blades on the other hand? Been thinking about getting one of these for a cheap preview of what it is like to shave with a straight razor, so please correct me if I am mistaken.

It sounds like an interesting idea that has some merit especially if you travel and don't want to take all your gear with you. Sounds like something I should try:)
    Thanks!

I think you got me on that one.. was going on what i had been told.. i have the red holder which holds the DE blade half.. and the black one that holds the long disposable blade.. you are correct that the other is for the fromm style,, it does not say feather. I was told that it would but have never tried and the web site does not say it.

A pity that it seems like I was correct then, have heard some great things about the Feather blades, especially the Super Pro, but feel reluctant to shell out 3 times as much for the Artist Club as compared to what the Dovo Shavette costs. I am also drawn to the Shavette due to the exact reason you just pointed out, that it accepts half of a normal DE blade, which are readily available almost everywhere.

I think the Shavette is a nice razor.. But I rarely use mine actually I prefer the SE stuff myself.

Never tried one of these and don't plan to. If I want to use a DE, I use a DE, if I want to use a straight razor, I go for a _real_ straight razor.

I appreciate the opinions and it's good info for me to make a decision. I think I'll try one--in fact I have one lined up. I won a nice straight on ebay yesterday so I can compare them later.

Yeah I have been seeing this comment a lot and coming from different sources so I have finally put this option out of my mind and am concentrating on hunting down a real straight instead. :)

Sounds good Phil. Do a quick review when you get them. I'm curious now...
