A couple of years ago I found this site by accident. I was looking for the old school aftershave my barber uses. I had no idea there were people using old shaving implements. Now, after a couple of years of getting superfine shaves with DEs, I am moving to straights. I've acquired a bunch of DEs and injectors, but I also picked up four straights at odd places like flea markets. I always thought maybe I would learn later. Well, 2013 is the year. I've contacted Larry at Whipped Dog, and I'll be sending off soon for refurbish and honing. To say I am ridiculously excited is an understatement. Here is what I have: A black handle Lakeside Cutlery A Dubl Duck Satinedge A brown handle medium hollow ground Joseph Allen and son from Sheffield, England A brown handle Torrey Razor Co. from Worcester, Mass. I picked them up thinking I would refurbish them on my own. But after reading the forums I've decided to let the pros do it. I've included a photo, and I'll post more on my progress. I have a lot to learn, but I am ready.
You'll have some nice razors to shave with. There is a learning curve with shaving technique and blade maintenance. Take it slow and enjoy it. Good luck.
....and the journey begins! Enjoy the shaves. You got some good razors, take the time and get to know them!
The only name on that list that I've never heard of is Lakeside. The other three brands of razors have excellent reputations as fine shavers. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like I won't be honing up the lakeside after all because of the hone wear. The other three, however, will be getting a bath.
If you ever want to restore it on your own, just let post. I have a great wet sand progression that really works.
