Yesterday I received a vintage "Sunrise" razor, here are the pictures: I cleaned the razor in my ultrasonic cleaner, did the trick with aluminum foil, baking soda and hotwater, then ultrasonic cleaned it again. Now it looks almost like new: Only information on "Sunrise" in Waits' Compendium: ... which is very little ... On top of that, Waits lists a razor based on vintage Gillette "brownies" - which this razor is not. My question is: anybody who can give more information on these (Dutch ?) razors ?
Hi Jan, I don't speak the language that is printed on that box, but it seems to me the msnufacturers of it are comparing it to a Gillette or a Rotbart. It does look like an Old Type Single Ring clone. Pretty common for the era it seems to be from. By the way, nice score on that one ! It looks great.
The "Gillette-en-Rotbart mesjes" translates as Gillette and Rotbart knives (blades) and Google identifies the language as Dutch.
Hi Morman, the language is Dutch (as I am) and the text is (loosely) translated: "Razor using Gillette and Rotbart blades". Which makes me think it should be dated early 1930's ... By the way, I'm not 100% sure box and razor match ... ;-)
Thank you jar, for the info. So I guess the manufacturer must be indicating the razor will accept those blades. (Gillette & Rotbart)?
It shaves great ! See my SOTD at http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/sos-august-14-2017-august-20-2017.57063/page-23#post-1302855
