I shaved with a sample of Tabac soap that srpavko sent to me. Here is what I think. Price: 9/10. This was just a sample, but considering for what you get and how long the soap lasts; I say it's a bargain. Quality: 9/10. It's one of the wet shaving world's most renowned soaps and I can see why. This stuff just rocks! Scent: 10/10. Some people get thrown off by the scent, but I really like it. It has been described as smelling like Archie Bunker's t-shirt, but I like to say it smells like Hunter S. Thompson's bedroom. Lather: 10/10. It was so easy to lather this up that it almost felt too easy. Efficacy: 8/10. It's pretty slick, just make sure you add enough water. Moisturizing: 10/10. My face feels really hydrated and smooth. Would I buy this: Yes, I think I'm going to buy some along with the little container... after I sell some stuff. I honestly don't know why I waited so long to try this. It's really good stuff. Trying stuff is dangerous for me, because 9 times out of 10; I will end up liking it and wanting some. Tabac is no different. It kind of has a warm feeling to it (not sensation) that I think would make it a great fall/winter soap.
I'm hooked on Tabac! I still rotate my other soaps and creams but I could live on Tabac alone. I think you've hit it perfectly in your review with moisturizing and scent. Perhaps not a scent for everyone, but definitely a complex and distinguished masculine one. I don't know who Hunter S. is though.
It's on my list to try but I've got a good couple years worth of stuff to go through first. Maybe it's a good thing I have hard water. I use more product that way. Thanks for the review Ryan.
He was an author, a notorious boozer, heavy smoker. He wrote the Rum Diary. It's a good book you should check it out sometime.
I have extremely hard water, but this lathered up just fine. I'm like you though, I either have to use stuff or get rid of it before I buy some.
He also wrote Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Which is a crazy psychedelic trip. He didn't stick solely to the booze and tobacco.
Tabac is my choice. Both the lather, body wash, deodorant and AS have a nice clean manly scent. The cream soap lathers up nicely and fairly quickly. I mix in some glycerin/distilled water for an uber lather that leaves my face feeling great after a straight razor shave. I have obtained many AS's and soaps, but keep the Tabac on the shelf to use daily. Can you say, hooked? I've ordered and am awaiting the Tabac Man cologne for a longer lasting scent. I have two large bottles of AS and added MBomb to one for that extra menthol kick. Happy Shaving!
I'm not a big fan of the soap but Tabac shaving cream is perfection, IMO. It could very well be the best shaving product I've used.
I'll have to agree with Oscar's post. However if we instigate a run on the product, there may be less available for our addiction! Glad I took in a stock of the soap, AS and body wash early on. Set for a year or so.
Tabac in the glass bowl was one if my first purchases in my venture into wet shaving. It's fantastic stuff. I keep it in my normal rotation. It should last quite some time. I can still read Tabac stamped into the top of the puck. Glad you enjoy it as well.
I second the soap, its ridiculously easy to lather, which in my mind takes away the greatest advantage the cream would have, and for the price the soap is the better deal
