Firstly, I should state I wish there were more variety out there. For sensation, Gold Bond Green wins; for scent and luxury, Yardley's English Rose and Cussons' Imperial Leather Classic; and for economy, off-label J&J Aloe/Vitamin E.
Mysore Sandalwood Talc: http://www.smallflower.com/mysore/mysore-sandal-talcum-powder-300-g-powder.html Pinaud Clubman Talc: http://www.smallflower.com/pinaud/clubman-talc-white-large-9-oz-powder.html I've always wanted to try the Cusson's Leather, but can't find it locally.
Ya, I bought Imperial Leather in Dubai. Clubman I'm not exactly crazy for. I love the splash, wish the talc was more fragrant. I also feel it doesn't absorb moisture as well as other powders. I _have_ to try Mysore's. The bath soap is, undoubtedly, my favorite sandalwood scent. Thanks for the tip!
Yardley's English Rose is so strongly perfumed, and deliciously so. It's the one I intentionally spill on the bathroom floor as it fills the room with its scent until it's cleaned up.
I tried googling an answer, came up a little empty. I feel foolish for asking this. But what exactly is the correct use for talc pertaining to shaving. I've heard of people using it mid day to absorb oil from skin, used to dry the face prior to after shave, replacing aftershave list goes on. What's its primary intended purpose?
There are AS talcs whose purpose is to soothe the area just shaved. I've tried Pinaud's - splash is far superior. Traditional talc is used to keep areas dry and silky. Surgical gloves, for example, have talc in them to help the hand ease into the latex. Pool players also use talc on their hands to keep the stick running smoothly between/atop their fingers. Of course, the primary place for application on a male is the undercarriage: keeps the area dry, fresh and non-irritated from skin-to-skin rubbing. [EDIT: Feet too are commonly powdered for sockless shoe wear. Miami Vice, babii.]
Oh yeah... Love that site! My pleasure! To me, they smell identical. Note that this does not include the Mysore Gold (which has a bit of Almond oil added)... that particular soap smells different.
If they smell identical, that's a loaded statement, Mr. Flair. Mysore Sandal bath soap is a shower filler. I'll probably just dump it on myself and never shower again.
I love the Yardley of London's Sandalwood...best sandalwood I've ever smelled, but I've not tried Mysore yet. I wish I could get the yardley around here...
Well Clubman, as its my first memmory of barbershop smell. Love it, however that those others mentioned..yardley and imperial sound pretty good. May have to start looking around. How do you like that Gold bond Green?
I use Clubman on my face. For going sockless, Clubman works too well on my feet (dries them out), so I use Anti-Monkey Butt Powder instead.
Does talc really work that well for feet? I hate to admit it but I have the nastiest feet on the planet and I would really like to "improve" the situation! I soak them in the tub every day and sand them regularly which helps. It sounds as if I should give talc a try to help dry them out! Whaddya think?
Definitely. They're specific ones made for the feet, but don't sweat it - they'll all work well. House-Brand Imitation J&J Cornstarch Baby Powder is an excellent bargain.
