Good Evening- I've got a question for the Kitchen Chemists out there. If one was going to add Tea Tree Oil to Witch Hazel for use as an A/S tonic; what kind of ratio would you recommend? Let's say for 4 oz. of W.H.--How many drops of Tea Tree Oil would you start with? I'm not sure what kind of concentration to be looking for. Thanks.
Not really sure on this Chris, I would probably go with about 4-5 drops in 4oz. of Witchhazel, I haven't bought any yet though.... Maybe JoAnna can help by advising how many drops she uses in 4oz of shave soap
I have used Shampoo's with Tea Tree Oil in them and WHOA.....they burnt the heck out of my scalp. Redness like you wouldn't believe. I liked the way it felt at first though. oh well, tea tree is not for me.
I use Essential Oil, which I believe is different from the Tea Tree Oil you can buy at say Wal-Mart. Not sure I feel comfortable advising on the subject. Perhaps Rick, Issy, or Joe can help. They are far more knowledgeable on these type things. Rick uses TT a lot.
Tea Tree Oil is VERY potent. For 4 ounces witch hazel, I would use 5-7 drops. Any more than that would be overkill.
Yep. Go easy, young-un....the stuff is powerful. I'd start with a drop per oz of witch hazel. Dont take much for the Melaleuca goodness to come out
I use pure tea tree EO (I think lots out there are cut with a carrier oil). So I would say 1 drop per oz to start, although that is a gray area also...depends on the size of the drop (I measure by weight). Start low, you can always add but cant remove it. Issy
I'd also say add two or three drops to begin with. As Issy said: You can always add more, but can't remove it once the job's done
Good Morning, The Tea Tree Oil that I'm using is Pharmaceutical Grade 100% TTO purchased from Target. The only ingredient listed on the bottle is TTO . Would it list a carrier oil if they used one? Anyway, I started with 5 drops off of a glass rod into 4 oz. worked my way up to 10 drops and could probably go more. We'll see. I don't know what that says about the strength of the Target brand, it isn't what I expected. I'll head to the Body shop this morning and get something to compare it with. Thanks.
JoAnna's tea tree soap is fantastic, it gives me a nice invigorating tingle during and after a shave! I tried the Coate's Tea Tree s/c a while back, and I found it a bit irritating.
