Texas, for all it's faults....

....has some of the best damned barbecue I've ever had. I'm from Illinois and travel for work for usually 3 months at a time. There was an assignment that popped up in Lubbock, TX. I needed to work but dreaded Texas. It's hot. I don't do well in hot weather. So far I've adapted to the climate. Fortunately it's been mild lately. And I've become addicted to Texas barbecue. Been in Memphis, KC, all over the country, and Texas ranks right up there. Rudy's in Lubbock is hard to beat. When I go in there it's like Norm going into Cheers. Next time I get a few days off I may head back towards Austin and further south to hit the barbecue capital of the Lone Star state. If I don't go broke from brush and soap collecting (which I have a feeling will start soon), buying barbecue brisket will break the bank. I've gotta quit accepting work or I'm going to go broke!

    Faults??? Them's fightin' words :D

Head back to Austin asap. We'll put some Shiner on ice and head down to the Salt Lick and show you what real BBQ is supposed to taste like.

:D You're trying to seduce me Mr. Sandoval. May be heading that way in the next couple of weeks. Better skip the Shiner. I'm obnoxious enough w/o adding alcohol. I need to pick up a (need? oh boy...this is how it starts) Shavemaster and I'd like to hit Kruez Market in Lockhart. Faults? Did I say faults? That was the Shiner talking.

You guys just ruined my weekend.... Having lived in Texas for 5 years, I ended up moving to Minneapolis, talk about complete opposites!

I did find 2 things that keep me sane..

    1) Shiner is available here
    2) Bakers Ribs in Eden Prairie. He's from Texas and his brother has Bakers Ribs in Dallas. Whenever i need a fix, in I go!

I lived in McKinney, approx 2.3 miles from the closest Sonny Bryans! :happy069

Salt Lick? Meh, at least for brisket. Iron Works, that little place in the Arboretum area next to TJ Maxx (can't think of the name, hope its still there), and even County Line...nom nom nom...

[EDIT: though I will admit that the Salt Lick franchise in Las Vegas at Red Rock Canyon casino is better than most 'q's out that way...]

County line is awesome.... Love it. Instead of driving to Council Bluffs Iowa today, I may just have to continue down I-35 instead of making that turn at Des Moines!

In the spirit of full disclosure I should admit I have a little bias for County Line because that's where I had my first date with the lady who is now my wife. ;) :D

(But I like the brisket and the peppered turkey anyway  )

Meh. Best BBQ in Texas comes from my own grill and/or smoker! The wife and I do ribs that have spoiled us for anything any restaurant can give. :happy102

+100 on that Shiner though. Their new Black Lager is awesome! Lone Star is good when I'm being cheap.

Alright, so County Line is good too, I won't argue that.

Just don't let me see any Shiner bashing on this thread :D

Well, I'm not from Texas but I'll get there as soon as I can :D

I have to say though that I've been to a few places in Texas and love every part I've seen.

Shiner may be ok, but I prefer splashing on a lil Aqua Velva and drinking a piss warm Natural Lite.
