Round one match one of best newbie DE razor
1946-47 Gillette Super Speed vs 1967 Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
Brush: Maggard Razors faux granite handle 26mm synthetic
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    Soap: Antiga Barbearia De Bairro
    Aftershave: Epsiolon Blue Mediterranean

This bout was very close indeed. Both delivered a comfortable, close shave. However the black handle Super Speed delivered a very slightly closer shave than the 46-47 Super Speed. So I will say the winner of this match is the 1967 Gillette Black Handle Super Speed. 0CA58073-FDA3-4314-8E4E-2D05551A1B54.jpeg

I predict the SuperSpeed will win! ;)

    Specifically, the NDC.

In this case the Black Handle Super Speed won the shave off by a hair. It was very close comparing the 2, but the end result of the Black Handle was just a touch smoother to the touch after I finished shaving than the 1946-47 Super Speed.

I would like a clarification on what you are referring to: 1946-47 Super-Speed. I was unaware of a 1946 year. Is your center bar notched or un-notched?

Round 1 match 2 of best DE razor for a newbie
Razorock Gamechanger .84 vs PAA The Flight Satin DOC
Brush: Maggard Razors faux granite handle 26mm synthetic
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    Soap: Antiga Barbearia De Bairro
    Aftershave: Clubman Musk

This was a neck and neck battle between the Gamechanger and Flight Satin DOC; in the end the Gamechanger won due to Shaving closer than the DOC as well as having less irritation on the GC side. When I splashed on the aftershave; the DOC side burned more than the Gamechanger side and that was the final factor in determining the winner. 74AE432C-A657-4436-914F-1B455F817DE6.jpeg

Best DE razor for a newbie round 1 match 3.
    Gillette Heritage vs Parker 96R
Brush: Maggard Razors faux granite handle 26mm synthetic
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    Soap: Antiga Barbearia De Bairro
    Aftershave: Alt-Innsbruck

After 3 passes using both razors the winner was obvious. The Parker 96R was the clear winner by a landslide. It left my face smoother than the Gillette Heritage, its handle has more grip and shaved better overall than the Heritage. 736D1D2F-D029-4E7A-9B26-64AADCBBDD0E.jpeg

Tomorrow’s shave off will be an epic matchup. The Merkur 34C vs the Edwin Jagger DE89. That will be the last match of the first round; then it’s on to the semifinals.

Both are very nice razors, but I found the Edwin Jagger DE89 a little too mild ...... leaving me very happy with the shave of the Merkur 34C.

There's something very nice about the 34C ..... I never believed the hype till I bought one.

Match 4 of round 1 of best DE razor for a newbie. Merkur 34C vs Edwin Jagger DE89
Brush: Maggard Razors faux granite handle 26mm synthetic
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    Soap: Antiga Barbearia De Bairro
    Aftershave: Floid Vigoroso

This was a close call, but the winner of this shave off was the Edwin Jagger DE89. It won for 2 reasons: 1 it shaved closer than the 34C and 2 it didn't cause any cuts or irritation. 9F615C74-F349-4998-87B5-86BF1F5D98C7.jpeg

Semifinals match 1 in best DE for a newbie.
Razorock Gamechanger .84 vs 1967 Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
Brush: Maggard Razors faux granite handle 26mm synthetic
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    Soap: Antiga Barbearia De Bairro
    Aftershave: vintage English Leather Spiced

I will admit this was a close call, but the winner of this semifinal match is the Razorock Gamechanger. It shaved just slightly closer than the Super Speed. D577CA34-3AE9-4462-980E-260DA0F7B170.jpeg
