I just got a puck of Blades Grim soap today. I got Scythe scent and to me, it's has a very clean, crisp kind of smell to it. You have to search for it (I did anyway) but you can smell hints of lemon in there. It reminds me of Gardenia, but I guess YMMV. My wife said it "smells like soap." Not much help there, but she said it was pleasing and not at all bad. Haven't had the chance to use it yet, but I'll report back soon. I did have a question though. Does anyone know the difference between the gold tin and the silver, besides the pop top for the silver tin and the screw top for the gold? It's worth 5 bucks, whatever it is. Here's the link to purchase it. http://www.straightrazor.com/the-blades-grim-gold-luxury-shaving-soap-scythe/ It was a standard "Pay, Shipped, Received" process, but I got my order quickly. And I am pleased with the gold tin it came in. It's a pretty cool looking logo.
Very interesting. Please let us know how it lathers and how slick you find the shave. Thanks for the review.
The Blades Grim soaps are made by Maria Arman, who also makes the Maggard soaps and her own branded soap, Through The Fire. So, it is a quality soap. http://www.ttffcraft.com/through-the-fire-fine-craft-shaving-soap-quotforgedquot.html
Well, I am happy to report that after I let the neck and cheek areas grow out for a couple days, I tried the Blades Grim soap. Man, lemme tell ya... That is so far, the best shave soap I have tried. I picked up wet shaving around a year ago now, and have used a fair number of products. I don't consider myself a salty shaver as far as wet shaving goes by far, but I think I have enough experience now to finally share my thoughts. I used a Gillette Super Speed TTO with a Wilkinson Sword blade and a 28mm FS badger hair brush. I took a shower right before and washed my face with Neutrogena Men Invigorating Face Wash. I followed my typical ritual and soaked the brush. I loaded it then made the lather on my hand. It was a perfect lather. Not too wet, not too dry. It stayed moist during the entire shave, never flaking, and it was as slick as you could ever hope for. I am pretty demanding of my soaps due to the fact that if I only have a couple days growth, I'll typically go XTG first, followed by ATG and touch up. Today, I went straight for the ATG and was thoroughly impressed. No irritation, a DFS and near BBS. If I used a more aggressive razor, which will likely be the case with the new soap, I believe I could have easily had a BBS shave in one ATG pass and touch up. There was plenty of moist lather left for my touch up as well. Again, I only shaved my neck and cheeks today, as I am currently heavily bearded. Due to an upcoming job change, I am going to be shaving about four months worth of beard and will keep you all informed. Anticipating the shave, I ordered the soap and so far am very pleased. The scent didn't change much during the lather or shave. Very clean and doesn't stick around long. Although I don't mind a soap that leaves a pleasant scent behind, this left me feeling very clean and refreshed. Of course, due to differences inherit in people, YMMV. But I think that goes for just about everything and is certainly is too be expected of things as subjective as scents. I would recommend their soap all day and all night. I am thrilled and look forward to using it again. I will definitely purchase their different scents as well. I'll link to the site I got it at again, in case anyone missed it. I encourage you all to give The Blades Grim soaps a try. http://www.straightrazor.com/the-blades-grim-gold-luxury-shaving-soap-scythe/
