I know str8 world has their thread for sharing worst cuts shaving, because, well they are dragging a knife across their face. How about us in the world of relative "safety" here? Any nasty nicks or cuts?
I'll start I was shaving last night and had a hold of my nose with my first finger and thumb of left hand and was getting ready to shave right under my left nostril with my 1948 Super Speed. My nose slipped out of my grip and I may have jerked my hand also I dunno I put a deep nasty slice right across my nostril. Nothing like donating a little blood to the shaving gods, amirite?!?
My worst cut with an SE was with a Schick Adjustable. I was trying to hurry and was not paying much attention. I started going across my upper lip half way through the stroke for some reason I released my lips from the O face. I cut about 4 places before I realized what I had done and could not get it to stop bleeding. My worst cut with a DE was with a Slim. I started shaving and it didn't feel right. I looked and for some reason the razor was set on 1. I changed the setting back to 9 but didn't lock the quarter turn down. The doors were getting loose from rinsing the razor. I did not notice until I was Across the grain on my chin. The blade dug in deep, So deep had to go across the cut the other way to get rid of a flap of skin. Permanent Scar for a good reminder to make sure and lock down the blade.
Mine is a pretty boring story, dropped razor in sink, put hand in to grab it and cut me finger! Just clumsy really. I used to think I would get lots of cuts and nicks off an "old fashioned" razor but I have to be honest, I've been really, pleasantly surprised at how "safe" safety razors are. Weeper that sounds like a nasty cut!
I had the TTO knob come a little loose on a flare tip SS once and had the blade dig in on my neck. Not as bad as yours but I now definitely prefer the adjustables for that extra 1/4 turn. Makes it easier to know the doors are locked down and will probably stay that way.
I'm having a tough couple days, I was buffing my cheek tonight and it caught a spot on my cheek bone and now I'll have a little scar there too. But chick's dig em right? Ha
I haven't had a bad cut yet *knocks on wood* but I have had some nicks on my chin and on my upper lip.
"There is one now. Look at the scars on his face." "The one we need is the man who gave him those scars."
I was recently reminded that I have "used" a cartridge razor before. As a kid, I used to love watching my dad shave. When I was 3 or 4, I ran his Astra over my lip to be like papa. Ooops. Mucho blood, but thankfully no scar. (I don't suppose guys dig a girl with an um.."dueling scar" on her lip?!! )
My worst cut was on my chin around the imperial. It happened about 8 months ago. I watched as I carefully ran the blade horizontal instead of vertical. Still don't know what I was thinking to do that. I will say this the resulting slice was "VERY" clean and deep....A stypic pencil wouldn't stop the bleeding, I had to put a small bandaid on it...My luck "NO" scar for the chicks to dig......
My only bad cut was on my ankle. I was shaving my legs, while sitting on a shower bench, and I dropped the razor.
This thread makes me queasy! But it just goes to show you that sharp things live in safety razors and any lack of concentration will bite you. I am going to doubly resolute now. Luckily I don't have any cuts that weren't gone in a day or two. The bit about making sure your Gillette adjustable is locked down is great advice.
Mine came loose also one time, but I caught it in the act just before I put it to my skin. Cuts avoided. What I do like when I cut myself with DE, it's that it doesn't hurt and the bleeding is easily stopped. I recall cutting myself countless times with my Mach3 and not being able to stop the bleeding. I guess it's because the DE cuts more cleanly. Also the alum block helps.
I guess I was about four or five. We were visiting some friends and I had to use the bathroom. While in there I found a single edge blade. Wondering, "Are these things really as sharp as Mom and Dad say?", I laid the blade to the pad of my thumb, gave a little press and slice, and nothing happened. "Hmmm...", thought I, as I could see a line but no blood - until I squeezed it! Then I couldn't get it to stop!!
