Any cyclists here @ TSD? Post photos of your bikes here! Mine is a 2017 Wabi Road single speed/fixed gear (don’t call it a “fixie”!!). Brooks competition saddle, leather bar tape and super light (sub 1500 g) wheelset. Steel is real, y’all!!
I'm an incidental cyclist. The 7 year old grand daughters want to ride their bikes to school which means also riding home. It's only 4 city blocks, but I didn't really want to walk while they ride. For years I've picked up bikes from street side trash plies. Seems a shame to let a bike go to the dump when for the price of a couple inner tubes, some kid can enjoy it. Some times I also come across adult sized, but I've passed them on to folks as needed. This one I kept for myself. It's an 18 speed with front and rear suspension. I've already swapped out for a more cushy seat, put $10 worth of fresh Good Year tubes in, lubed and oiled where needed. I'm getting all the cable actuated functions adjusted and working properly. It's a 26 inch and even with the seat pushed up I find my knees too bent for comfort. The handle bars are just a short straight pipe. Can't swap out for something more high rise without changing all the cables. No light weight either. The latch & hinge in the middle of the steel frame does allow it to fold up for car trunk hauling. I'm not sure who makes or sells this unit. Google search finds nothing. Could be the manufacturer has gone out of business.
I saw this just poking around. https://motoredbikes.com/threads/i-got-my-army-recon-folding-bicycle-today.11836/
That does appear to be the same unit, but it could be a more deluxe model. The post was from 2008 which reaffirms my suspicion about not being in production. No worries because I'm a tinkerer, can fabricate or swap parts from other bikes, and there are a couple specialty shops near for expert assistance. Now if it would quit raining...
I’ll have to find some pictures of the bikes. I have a Cannondale Synapse, a Schwinn Fixie, and a Trek Tandem. Not to mention a gorgeous cycling partner
+1 on the gorgeous cycling partner!! If I can pry my 12 year old daughter away from the electronics I have not one but 2 gorgeous cycling partners!
My Bride and I have six-speed folding bikes. When folded, they both fit in the trunk of our car. Here they are on vacation with us in Florida.
One I built ..... Semi-fixed GT A vintage butch and tied Brooks saddle A fun ride I gave away when my wife and I went to Africa.
Thank you, I use to build bikes from the frame up when I was off from work. My wife and I returned from eSwatini (between SA and Mozambique) in 2016. We really miss the country and its people.
My friends are also back stateside right now. Their son was born in Nairobi and they really are anxious to go back also. The pictures they’ve shown me are amazing but they say the same thing... the people are what makes Africa so unforgettable.
Got my bike cleaned up and adjusted and the inner tube in the front replaced and gave it a try and crashed just getting on. Once elbow & knee scrapes heal I'll try again. Will lower the seat in the mean time.
