"CineTel Films has acquired rights to remake I Spit on Your Grave and has a planned 2009 worldwide theatrical release."

You are kidding right. What is next a remake of Cannibal Holocaust, how bout Combat Shock!

Last week I almost went to see Last House on The Left for the third time (yes, it is the third remake the first was a remake of The Virgin Spring) and I did see I Am Legend for the third time (Last Man on Earth, The Omega Man).

I also here they are redoing The Warriors and Escape From New York. Not to mention Star Trek remake....god I could go on here.

Is is just me or can Hollywood just not do anything original, hell I hear QT is redoing G.I. Bro (Quel maledetto treno blindato or Inglorious Bastards).

I regret what I just said. I was making a joke about Cannibal Holocaust but decided too look it up and guess what I found.

"In 2005, Ruggero Deodato officially announced that he planned to make a companion piece to Cannibal Holocaust entitled Cannibals. Deodato was originally hesitant about directing his new film, as he thought that he would make it too violent for American audiences. While in Prague filming his cameo appearance in Hostel: Part II, however, Deodato received the chance to view the original Hostel and decided that he would direct after all, citing Hostel as a similarly violent film that made a mainstream release in America. Although the screenplay, written by Christine Conradt, has been completed, a conflict between Deodato and the film's producer has delayed filming, which was scheduled to begin September 2008."

    Thank you Wikipedia.

I agree that hollywood is "originality challenged" these days. Although, the star trek movie isn't a remake, but rather a prequel. As such, it's just another chapter in the ever growing star trek universe.

the cannibal movies of the 70s and 80s weren't exactly good films. It's no surprise to me that Deodato and his ilk are gonna go back to that trough to feed again. Too bad Fulci and Joe d'Amato died. They'd have a ball in this new market.

Argento did finally finish his three mothers trilogy, though. "Mother of Tears" is nowhere near as good as Suspiria but still worth watching. But I avoid theaters these days. Netflix is where it's at for me.

What, are you saying that the remake of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' wasn't the bomb?

It was a bomb alright, but the bad kind.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

I think I read somewhere that every movie ever made follows 7 basic plots/types, can't remember where I saw it though, or the exact details

Hollywood! I'll reveal my age if I tell you that Roy Rogers and Gene Autry used the same scripts with different titles. Don't you dare ask who? :D

Cannibal Holocaust already had a companion piece. It's called Porno Holocaust. :D

Combat Shock! could never be properly remade. There's not a technique available in modern production that could properly replicate the pure grime and sleaze that drips off of every frame of that picture.

Ya know, I think that's true about most of the remakes of these 70s horror classics. The only films that have come close, in my mind, are Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Devil's Rejects." I haven't seen his "Halloween" remake but I don't see how it can touch the Carpenter original.

I haven't seen Combat Shock and I don't think I ever will. It's sleaziness shines through the text descriptions I've browsed.

Oh, and Porno Holocaust had a few companion pieces as well- "Erotic Nights of the Living Dead" and "Emmanuelle and the Last Cannibals." Like Combat Shock, I haven't seen any of them and I don't really want to...

I too like my nemesis Will lament the death of cinema. Original movie ideas are far and few between.
