I was interested in taking advantage of Bath & Body Works' recent buy 2 get 1 free promotion, but I know Proraso has reformulated their line of creams, so I asked Bath & Body Works which product line was being offered on their website...was it the old version or the reformulated version of C.O. Bigelow? My query was kicked up to their corporate customer relations department and here's the reply I got today after a couple weeks of waiting. ----------------------------------------------- "Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We're always grateful for your comments as they help us to improve as a company. Our goal is always to make our customer’s day, so we’re sorry to let you know that CO Bigelow Shave Cream is no longer in production. Your opinion means the world to us, so we’re happy to inform our Product Managers of your wish to see your favorite back in the store. We recently launched our new Men’s Signature Collection to replace our previous men’s line. It includes Body Wash, Cologne Spray and Deodorizing Body Spray in the following fragrances: Ocean – a fresh blend of cypress, vetiver and yuzu (try if you like Cool Spring or Glacier Bay) Oak – a woodsy blend of red oak, cedarwood and musk (try if you like Woodland) Citron – a citrus blend of white woods and lemon zest (try if you like Cool Spring or Mountain Frost) Noir – an exotic blend of black cardamom and white musk (try if you like Mountain Frost) Another added bonus - the new Men’s Signature Collection will be eligible for the same in-store promotions as our other Signature Collection products and you can use our direct mail offers as well. If we can be of any further assistance, please reply to this email or contact us at 1-800-395-1001, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday." ----------------------------------------------- Not sure if this means it's really dead and gone, or if B&BW is just not carrying it anymore. I guess the next place to look for answers would be the source. In the meantime, just to be safe, grab what you can and run for the door!
With any luck, they will pick up the reformulated version. It is nice being able to get something other than Williams at a local store.
I didn't know that C.O. Bigelow was an independent brand. Interesting. Learn something new every day.
Seems this theme that Bigelow is no mo' is a bit of a trend. I was reading a thread from 2011 on another forum where the o.p. was told the same thing I was. In his digging for the truth, he learned that C.O. Bigelow is owned by the same company that owns Bath & Body Works. Is it possible they had Proraso make a crap ton of this stuff for them in a one-off kind off thing, and once it's gone that's it? Anyone know how long Bigelow has been on the market?
As Marbert stated, Bath and Body Works has been doing this with C.O. Bigelow shaving products for some time at various stores and throughout their line of business. That is why I but Bigelow's website so that you can deal with them directly if you don't want to go to the mall and find the product is not there.
A very long time. http://classic.forgotten-ny.com/SIGNS/oldbusiness/oldbus.html http://www.bigelowchemists.com/pages/index/history They (C.O. Bigelow) look to be independent but having product sales space at BBW sinde LimitedBrands does not list C.O. Bigelow as a company that they own. http://www.smartbiz.com/article/view/394/1/1 http://www.limitedbrands.com/our_company/default.aspx http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/104/104462.html Women turn to Bath & Body Works (BBW) to help wash away the daily stresses of life. A subsidiary of Limited Brands, BBW operates more than 1,650 stores throughout North America and an online shop. The company sells shower gels, lotions, antibacterial soaps, home fragrance and accessories under its own BBW brand, as well as the C.O. Bigelow and White Barn Candle Co. brands. Customers in need of rejuvenation can also find a line of aromatherapy and at-home spa treatments, and in some stores, extra indulgences such as massages and pedicures. The BBW brand has had an image makeover, from country-inspired to a modern-day apothecary of beauty. BBW accounts for about a quarter of Limited Brands' sales.
Found myself out in Palm Springs this weekend and hit a B&BW to see where they were at with the whole C.O. Bigelow story. They had in stock several of the small $5.00 tubes that appear to be the new formula; I saw no mention of SLS in the ingredients. So, I don't know what's going on. Why would their corporate people tell me the stuff isn't being made anymore? Looks like it's gotten the same update Proraso branded products have gotten.
I contacted C.O. Bigelow this weekend, asking if they were discontinuing their shave cream. IMHO, it seems far-fetched that they would discontnue an item that's listed as a best seller on their website. I'll let you know what they say, if I get a response.
Hopefully they'll get back to you sooner than it appears they're interested in getting back to me. I emailed them about a week ago and haven't heard anything.
Got a call today from a rep at Bath & Body Works. She confirmed that C.O. Bigelow has NOT been discontinued and apologized for the bad info. She did confirm that it has been reformulated.
That makes a little more sense, since the reformulated version started showing up in the smaller tubes about 6 weeks ago or so.
I finally made it out to a BBW and got myself a small tube of C.O. Bigelow. I've used it for the past few days and I am happy. Now I have both soaps and creams.
Kevin, they discontinued Noxzema lather cream which was a HUGE seller in North America for a long time, and then production of it moved to Italy. It sold big there, and a couple of years ago, poof - it was discontinued there also. Go figure.
New products come (like the blue and red Proraso lines). and old ones sometimes go away. it keeps things interesting, at least. ;>
