This is really big here. The last snow was in '04 and that was the first snow in a century. Kids younger than Middle School age have never even seen a snow flake here so it's a big deal.
Sometimes I see snow and miss it. I grew up (northern Maine) with all four seasons. Here in the Northwest it is more like two seasons - Spring and Fall. But then some of the memories of Maine winters come back - such as going up on the roof with my dad, several times each winter, to shovel the snow off in order to keep the weight down. It was always fun the first time but quickly became a chore after that.
I remember spending Christmas and New Years with my folks back in '91, I believe. They live in Maine about an hour+ north of Bar Harbor, up Route 1. Anyway, forecast for the day we left (Jan 2) was for light flurries, clearing by noon. We left the house at 5am, cloudy skies. An hour later we're in Ellsworth and the flurries start. We get into Augusta to pick up 95/Maine Turnpike a couple hours later and it's really coming down. On the interstate we're following a plow truck, the only way to stay in our lane - near white-out. Radio says they're closing interstate behind us! We get to the NH border and there's nothing on the ground! Finally pull into home in NJ and call Mom and Dad to let them know we made it. They wound up with 18" of light flurries, clearing by noon!!!
Wasn't expecting snow here on the South Coast. Across the street, the neighbors palm tree has snow on it. As per Emergency Procedures, all Governmental Services are suspended during the current emergency. If I decide to get out today, the snow has already melted off my truck.
It's still coming down in SE Louisiana now at 2:45. I reckon there's about 2" at my house. Just a few miles north they have over 5" and still snowing. Crazy
It is still coming down here. I made this snowball and put it in the freezer. Thinking about dropping it in the sink for tomorrow's shave.
