Oulallaaa, that was some nice gift. I'm also waiting for the pic of the razor. I hope you like it. Are those blades a brand you like? Or did she take a chance? =)
Soon arriving—in about six days or so. My first C-MON straight razor. "C-Mon" was an abbreviation for Carl Monkhouse, a manufacturer of barber supplies in Germany. Peter J. Michels was his distributor in the USA (up to 1955). I've read nothing but rave reviews of these razors by SR enthusiasts, so I'm anxious to try one out. Some of the gold wash is missing from the tang, but all in all, it appears to be in pretty good shape. I look forward to giving it a good cleaning & sharpening, and of course, a test drive. Worth the month long wait.... "PJM" bolster...
I'll post a pic after I use it tomorrow. I really like the Ladas blades a lot! Now I have 200. The SC101 is heavy, due to the bulldog handle. My wife done good! Well worth the wait.
Came across a bar handled NEW short comb for $10 today. It's been several years since I decided I preferred the long comb, one of which Dale was kind enough to give to me. That also means I probably last tried the short comb before my technique was as good as it is now, possibly skewing my judgment. The only difference I can see is the curved vs flat base plates; the caps look identical. Some guys say the SC is the more aggressive, others say the LC, still others say they notice no difference. Only one way to find out for myself: a side by side, same blade comparison.
