New week, new thread, new toys... First up is the '57 Red Tip courtesy of Blue_monkey. Blades are of '52 vintage per the one in the back. Second is a puck of C&E Sandalwood. Grabbed this after word broke across the street that the sandalwood has been discontinued. Now I need a bowl for it.
Can you tell me what you think of the sandalwoodsoap when you have tried it? It's the only soap I have tried and it didn't work out at all for me
EJ Sandalwood was my first soap as well (gents.se? ). And I think I even threw it away after finding "the good stuff". It didn't work for me either, I think it's the only soap that I have gotten a hint of a rash from...
You got me there Johan Okey good to hear I wasn't lonely! I guess I'll have to try something else then
What's going on with The Haul? Did everybody stop buying things all of a sudden? Here's my latest scores -- A 1930's Bostonian and Red and Black.
I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Merkur Slant. Since I was already ordering someting I also got a puck of Pre De Provence shave soap.
Nothing out of the ordinary this week... an auction on eBay with a lot with cruddy looking fatboy to clean up, some open combs, a tech or two. Also, from an antique store another Ever-Ready SE and this frankentech.... The handle and bottom head is from a made in Canada tech. The top I tracked down via patent number. Patent number search came up with this http://www.google.com/patents?id=3x...612&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=0_1#PPA1,M1 The head was patented in 1945 by Joseph Mellon. Anybody ever use one of these? The Mellon head won't screw all the way into the tech handle. That would be why the tech base plate was still on there. I will try some of my other handles once I finish the cleanup of this razor. It was in less than stellar cleanliness to begin with.
Dude, after everything you've bought, there's nothing left for the rest of us! BTW, the Black & Red is my fave... nice score!
Wow. Nice finds everyone. All I got was some Pinaud Clubman and Pinaud Bay Rum (and I don't even have pics ) I'm lovin' on Pinaud now, thought
What you have is a 'Grand Razor' 'Shave King' Self lubricating razor head on a mismatched gillette tech stem. The correct stem is light and aluminum. They are very nice shavers, effective and forgiving. Here are a couple of pics....
Ahh thank you for the information. I will update the post I made in Safety Razor thread then. It was a pain to clean out the concreted shave cream and crud from between all the teeth but it cleaned up well. I shaved with it this morning. The lubricating qualities I will give it an A for. However, it was very mild, despite the huge blade gap. Close up shows the exposure is nil.
