Hope it's warming up where you are. Spring was kind of late in coming, but now everything is starting to green up. Hope you have a great haul this week!
Ohhhh me first. I got a package from Danny. A very generous sample of Lilac Vegetal and a puck of Master Well Comb Mug Soap. They smell lovely! They really do. I can't believe I like the smell. I've heard so much negative over the years, I was sure I would hate it. I'll give the soap a try this evening. Thanks, Danny!
Well I don't have anything "shaving" to show off and probably won't for a long time... had to buy a new riding lawn mower today. I may have to actually sell some things... :sick007 :sad023 :sad024 It does have a built in cup-holder... perfect for my shaving scuttle.... ha!
Happy Monday From Florida! I arrived home to find the PIF from AnB_Daddy / Tony. Thanks Tony! This Knack is super clean! I never tried or seen the orange Derby's before. As a special added bonus, I also have received two straight razor pouches from Southerscribbler / Dan! Thanks Dan!
It's been nearly a year since I've bought anything off the Bay as I seem to do just fine locally. But I happened to see these razors, threw out a silly bid , got up the next day and lo and behold I got them. I love my other Robeson Shur Edge so I figured another one couldn't hurt in a different style. And the Stoddard Optimus ( Germany) just had a sweet shape that will clean up just fine. There is a third one that I think got lost in the mail. We'll see. The 12k water stone was just a whim looking for just a little something extra. The 8 packs of 100 count washers is something I've been waiting for to wrap up some of the pieces I have . The most immediate need is on the Optimus! Just look at those things. I'll fix that in no time.
Some nice stuff early in the week Gentlemen! A small haul from a Flee Market Sunday. A 1958 (D-1) Gillette RedTip, in very nice working condition. Some minor brassing on the Barn doors and flaking of the TTO handle, but a Great Shaver, was my SOTD today. I will be passing this along to Regan as a "Thank You" for helping me out a last week with a Gillette Super Speed Razor PIF. (if I can squeeze the address out of him) What Goes around comes around I also picked up a new digital camera as a temporary replacement until I get my Hewlett Packard digital back. A Olympus FE-47, 14 megapixel and all kinds of bells and whistles. Not a bad camera for $68 at Walmart Canada.
You have the box coming, don't you? That should surely get you a few goodies Personally, I got one of these Saw one at an antique shop a while back that was ridiculously overpriced but I had to have it. Got on eBay when I got home and got it for less than 50% of what the antique place wanted...gotta love the internet. I collect Budweiser stuff and this looks great in my collection. It's a stein...kinda hard to tell from the photo. Made in Germany, only 10,000 made
Thank you very much. Don't need it but wouldn't ever say no to a razor. I got my blade samplers today one sampler from WCS (took FOREVER to ship) and one from Britva for some rapira blades. And my witch hazel to help calm my face after shaving.
Did I ever get lucky today! There is a barbershop near my house owned by a Lebanese gentleman, and I noticed he carries this great cream for cheap money, so I indulged by buying 3 tubes: Ingram shaving cream from Egypt!
Scored this on eBay for a shade under six bucks, and although it's obviously seen better days, it sparks the question (in me at least): Are all English Super Speeds Rockets? Or were there regular ones made in England as well? I've been casually looking around for one but they've been more than I really want to pay, so I was happy to snap this up. The rust worries me, but will it clean up? Is is worth it? I do see the trademark rocket gap, but I was just wondering. For some reason eBay won't give me the image url so here's the link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...witem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1156
I don't know enough to comment on it's origins, Rockets etc. but I do know that will clean up just fine. I've bought many that looked like that and worse. You'll be surprised how nicely that'll finish up. The handle may leave a tell tale mark but the rest is fine. For that price , regardless what it is, you 've got one of my favorite razors. I just scored my third. And no, I won't sell any of them. Mark
This Pay It Forward arrived yesterday from cyb A large tube of The Real Shave Co. shave cream Cologne and shave cream samplers from Baxters of California Your generosity is appreciated cyb Thank You
No, not all English "Super Speeds" are Rockets. It looks like you actually scored a Parat, but the difference is very minor. That was a fantastic price on a great, solid razor. For much more information on British Rockets, Parats, and Super Speeds, check out this thread.
Thanks for the info Rodd! I did actually check that thread out but there's so much information, and it's a little difficult to really get a good idea without the razor in hand. What about the pictures gave it away?
OK, I'm behind the 8 ball here. I too have checked out that thread and was overwhelmed by the info. SS's, Rockets,, and the only Parat I know of sits on your shoulder! If I put one of my razors on my shoulder can I then call it a Parat too?
The Parat looks just like the standard 40s style Rocket... however, when you turn the knob all the way in, if the knob is the same diameter as the handle, you have a Parat, if it is slightly thicker than the handle, it is a Rocket. Parat Rocket
Congratulations to everyone on the very nice swag! Looks like I need to add a few thing to my list (just no tractors ). Here's my haul for March: First, two 1925 Gems - the Conqueror in the gumwood box and the Peerless in the nickel case (hard to see but the monogram in the top left corner is GEM): Next, a 1927 silver Tuckaway with its original shipper and cloth bag (no instructions, though): Finally, two Wardonia razors - the 1931 Rutland on the left (incomplete box) and a complete cream 1935 Traveller's Set (including brush). I haven't seen Wardonia razors before, but there is something about them that I really like.
...my 100 pack of Astra DP's came yesterday. I also finally picked up A Super Speed for my den tonight from the bay as well. Jody was helpfull enough to let me know it had to be a 47,48 or 49 due to the lack of date code. Parat or Rocket? I don't know. The art of Manliness to assist me in my journey of life in to independence, manhood,... growing up. Also got a new timepiece, because i'm really growing on the idea of a watch. I simply couldn't take the first one I got off and wanted a new one. This is the second of hopefully a bigger collection one day...
