My Bakelite head vintage Merkur showed up today from Germany. The original cardboard box is in pretty good shape which is a bonus.
Lucked out at a yard sale this morning. Several months ago I lamented using up the last of my Aramis shave soap and had resigned myself to probably not finding more within my means. Well... At first glance, I was expecting a mug with one cake and a cardboard filler below that. And I'd have been fine with that. But when I later got the stuff out of the box... So for $4, I got a fantastically rough stoneware mug with black enameled interior (new coffeemug? maybe...prolly too much lead), a very nice, very soft badger brush (which I don't need) and THREE of one of my fav soaps ever. I know I could ebay this set and easily get 10x what I paid, but I don't wanna! Also found a nice brand new MacAusland's wool blanket and a couple of old Fire King plates that are now in the dishwasher, along with a couple of goofy goldfish/clownfish mugs for the girls. $10 for the whole outing. Plus I got to chat awhile with parents of a fellow USS Wasp plankowner (I was wearing my ballcap). That was very pleasant. A good day's scrounging, overall, and makes me feel better about being house-bound the rest of this weekend doing a ton of reports for next week. Have a good weekend, gents.
My $3 Wakins Neillite razor I found at my favorite farmers/flea market today. I posted more about it HERE. Seems no pay May for me will be no eBay May because I will still look for items in the wild.
Really cool PIF from @txskimo Haven't tried it yet (been trying to find the perfect adjustment setting on my Fatboy AND just got my fist SR the other day) but looking forward to it!
hunting in the wild I found a mug and brush set. that may be joppa mointain pottery, or maybe homemade. the bottom of the mug is marked, "R or PUTL". it has a never used boar knot. and an unopened cake of Surrey soap. I also got a badger brush from Ralph Lauren safari correction.
Another OS mug from the antique store and my scales for the wade&butcher came in today. Time to figure out this peening and wedge thing now. Also saw, but didn't buy because I want to do some research first, a "Christie(?)" SE razor with box and paperwork. And saw but didn't buy a GEM (1912 style head) with a Schick injector style short handle. I'll do some research first on the Christie (?) before going back for it.
L'Occitane, Embarcadero, San Francisco, earlier today. [Walks in with pretty girl who starts picking out a lot of stuff to buy] [Me, walks over to the shaving stuff. Store clerk comes over.] "Are you looking for something in particular?" "Do you still have the Plisson shaving brushes?" "Oh yes, let me get one from the back" [Returns with a brush in box'.] "How many of these do you have left?" "Oh there's quite a few" "How much is it now?" "It's...30 dollars" "Ah, yeah I bought one a few months ago. Handle got a small chip in it. I must have dropped it" "Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Well, what I can do is take off five dollars on this if you're looking for a replacement" "Sure" [Walks out with brand new L'Occitane Plisson brush for $25 and a bunch of samples] [Pretty girl bought girl stuff]
after a story like that, all the pics you have to show us is the replacement brush?this stuff has taken over
Living in Denmark the only way to get the brush is to order it from the Swedish site which is $50 then I have to pay $15 for delivery which seems a bit overpriced. So $65. I wish I could order 1 from the USA. Even with postage it would be a lot cheaper.
