Well.....I had a long hunt Friday. Here is what I found in the wild still uncleaned. Old Spice LE Admiral Decanter ( FULL UNOPENED) Old Spice mug Goose Grease mug Made in Taiwan Duck mug Schick Grip Black Tip Schick Paul Revere ( I have lost so many auctions for one of these! I paid $7 for this one!) Fat Boy Super Speed in a Fat Boy case ( I found the Fat Boy, then found the Case for it three towns and about 45 miles away!) And....That's it unless somebody wants to see my vintage Fire King haul.
I have longed for a proper shaving scuttle for a long time now, and today it arrived. Can't wait to try it out
Too lazy to post a pic, but I got a small haul of bath soaps and shaving soaps from Green Mountain Soap which is run by the parents of our own "soapbox." I was one of the beta testers on the shave soap and it's well worth grabbing. The bath soaps (both glycerin version and tallow version) are also wonderful.
Scored a '41 Ranger Tech on a PIF at B&B. Then I got this '46 Ranger Tech. I also got these two razors. A slim and a Aristocrat ( I think) Also got another Aristocrat off of a Beat Offer, but I can't retrieve a pic of it.
@Norseman: looks like an Robert Becker isn't it?! He does great work. Have tons of fun with it.I like the colour.
Yes it is. And it both looks and feels great. I had the choice between this and a scuttle from Steve Woodhead in the UK. The latter was a bit more expensive and would trigger an import tax. It also did not have a stopper. And even though shipping was $30 I think I got a better deal from Mr. Becker I am looking forward to my first shave with it. I just need to heal my face for a few days
Found what was labeled as a spinning pipe rack, though it would make a good place to put my DE's. Looks like it will work pretty well. I need to decide which ones to put in it though, not enough holes. It looks like it's time to clean them again though.
I started using my Becker scuttle again after a 4 week 'holiday' from it (face-lathering). Now that the chill of Fall is upon us, it is certainly a welcome addition (toasty-warm lather!) to my morning routine. I fill the scuttle with very hot tap water and seal it with a stopper (you can microwave a full scuttle if you really desire EXTRA hot), place my brush into the basin, and submerge the entire scuttle into a sink full of hot water. After a shower, I empty the basin and begin to make my lather. The lather will remain warm for about 20-30 minutes, plenty of time unless you are really determined to have a slow shave.
Some 'melt down' at the extreme end when I microwaved the water. The fluffy lather was extremely hot, but short-lived. Thus my decision to only use very hot tap water. By going with tap water, it also makes the whole process easier & faster, much more convenient (my microwave oven is on the other side of my home!), and yet still provides warm lather with no breakdown.
Good post. Thank you. I will probably go for tap water myself. It should suffice since it is too hot for normal use already
Today i bought a new brush: A cheap brush (10€) with a horn handle. I saw it standing there and couldn´t go away without buying it. Seems to lather up very nice.Made some testlathering in the palm of my hand. The next shave will be with my Robert Becker scuttle again and then i will test this brush. Let´s see how it works. Greetings Thorsten
This came in the mail today. A 1946-50 gold Tech. It was advertised as "new unopened" but I don't believe it even though it is in very good condition and quite shiny. Actually, it's in better shape than I'm in and it's got at least 10 years on me. Unfortunately my cell phone doesn't take the best photos.
