+1 Great start to the month! I just got back from the Post Office. I secured a '66 Gillette Slim in a "too good to be true" BST down the road. This is my first adjustable.
I picked up this little gem yesterday (Oct 1): A 16mm Pure Black badger brush from Whipped Dog. It's a bit bigger than I thought it would be with a nice, full knot; extremely soft to the touch. Set in a black resin handle. I used it with this morning's shave. Great feel for a smaller brush, with a very plush, lather-hungry knot. Next to it's bigger brother: WD 30mm Silvertip and WD 16mm Pure. They should get along just fine!
This BIG, shiny fella should be arriving in the next day or so. I haven't used an adjustable in a while, so I look forward to crankin' the dial...and mindful of the potential pitfalls when making adjustments. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/safety-razors-my-eye-caution-dont-do-this-at-home.34680/
A nice start on the weekend, even if it still is early Friday. I got a package from FitjarSoap. I received a soap, a cream and an aftershave balm in the Lighthouse scent. Which is a citrus Bay Rum scent, and my favourite. I also received ten shave soap samples, which I plan on giving away to a select group of decent people and wet shave connoisseurs. Included was also a puck of their pre shave soap, also a favourite of mine I also received a few blades, a 100 pack of another favourite, the Gillette Silver Blue. And a few Gillette Guard razors with 16 cartridges. You never know when they might come in handy. The 3-pack of Wilkinson Sword Classic I purchased by a mistake. These are the German ones, but I was going for the English made blades. Oh, I also got this one
Got a Schick Dial This gives me both an M1 and M2 as described by http://www.safetyrazors.net/schick/schicktech.htm I wasn't really looking for another adjustable, but put in a bid for $7.75 and got it, the total was $11.70 with shipping. It cleaned up nicely, if the seller had used a little Scrubbing Bubbles on it before taking the pictures I'm sure he would have gotten a better price.
This nice piece of work dropped on my doorstep yesterday. Being a woodworker, I know the advantages of a skewed plane. So I had to try the new slanted shavehead... I am not totally convinced yet... it was a close shave, but it's not as mild as his brother, the iKon OSS, better technic and less pressure is being asked for!
Nabbed this Ever-Ready 100 brush and a box of vintage Williams soap for $15 at a yard sale yesterday. Based on the $.15 price and no zip code in the address I'm guessing the Williams is from 1960-1964. You'll be seeing the brush again after I get the time to spruce it up!
This week i got my silvertip knot from TGN and finally was able to get around to setting it in my every ready handle. yesterday my son had an away game, a few cities away. the good news to the road trip is that city was having a antique fair in their historic district. I was able to score a ball end tech for 6 bucks. Cant wait to use it tomorrow (my first badger)
Got this Schick adjustable last month. It was my first adjustable, and I love it. I just won my first adjustable Gillette yesterday. It is an H-1 Slim, 1962. Can hardly wait to receive it later this week.
Rocket HD #59 plus 110 vintage blades. I love the Gillette Thins! Hope I like the Pay 'n Save blades, too.
Went by the Post Office and the local antique mall today, and it must have been my lucky day. I bought an Allegro Model L blade sharpener on eBay and it came today. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but if mine works as well as some that I've researched, I will be shaving with "sharp as new blades" for a while. At the antique mall, I found an Old Spice mug with a Gillette TTO (black handle, N2 date code) and what is left of an Erskine brush for $12.50. I then stumbled on one I've really been looking for, a Gillette Fat Boy! (F4 date code) Here's my haul from today:
I've been looking at for one of those sharpeners for awhile. I will get one eventually, very nice! You are going to love that Fatboy!
Brambleberry stuff came in yesterday. M&P shave soap base and a few EO's and a sandalwood/vanilla FO (amazing). i wasn't sure about the shave soap base because there was not a lot of reviews on it, but i think this stuff is great. I made a very small test batch this morning and was able to give it a test lather not long ago. It lathered wonderfully and pretty quick. It was very moisturizing and the only word i can think of to describe the lather is silky. I don't have a lot of expertise since the only other M&P soaps i have tried are col conk and vdh. But this one puts those 2 to shame.
Nothing to shave with...but a thing to have very much fun with... The new Album...absolutely BRILLIANT!!! Eddie Vedder for EVER!!! His voice gives me goosebumps every time i hear him sing. Go and get it!!! Greetings Thorsten
