The Haul: September 27th - October 3rd, 2010

Ah, Fall is here and the temps have finally broken some in the South. Finally able to think of cooler days and Fall activities. Octoberfest, anyone? Nice hauls last week. Y'all keep it up!

 

I purchased this book online this morning.
Printed in 1978, it is still factory sealed.

Its a good read especially the first half of the book , it sketches out the background of Gillette inventions well. The second half becomes a corporate history of Gillette up until about the late 70's and gives some insight into how Gillette the company viewed product lines. The only criticism I have is you don't get to intimately know King Gillette , there is no psycological or even detailed portrait of him so to me that part was a little bit of a letdown. Enjoy.

 

Does the book say anything about whether or not there is any historical archives at Gillette? I would love to talk to someone there.

 

No , no mention of that if I remember correctly. Just some mention of the in house publication, the Gillette Blade. This book was published in 1978.

 

A great way to start the week - Tsd soap samples of - Lemon & Cedarwood, Bay Rum, Sandlewood, and TSD SubZero. Plus a sample of Speick lotion and a bottle of m-bomb :anifrozen. Also scored 3 gem razors on a cheap ebay bid I added last minute and it had no bids . One says Micromatic, I think ones is a 1912, and I think the last one is a g bar. Fill me in if I am wrong though guys.

I like that Schick Stick pretty trippy shifter deal.

 

Yesterday I picked up:

A big tube of CO Bigelow SC from Bath and Body Works (I'll be ordering real Proraso online from now on...the sales ladies annoy me in B&BW)

A tube of Kiss My Face Lime SC from my local Natural Foods Market.

Some time ago I recieved in the mail 100 Shark SuperStainless blades.

 

Very cool stuff!

 

I've really got to stop buying razors. I decided that this would be my last purchase for quite some time (have ya'll ever made that deal with yourselves? ). Anyways, I got:

Two more lots of razors (the smaller one mainly for the slim adjustable and the Lady Gillette

A separate '74 Lady Gillette in much better condition.

And finally an X-4 coded Super Speed (not pictured). This is my Daddy's year and quarter of birth and I hope that it would make a nice gift one day after I get it cleaned properly.

Today from Geogaga / Alexey all the way from Latvia, I got two Russian (?) creams and an aftershave cream and six packs of blades, it looks like every type Rapira makes! Wow! Thanks Alexey! All of this for me sending one tube of T&H seems like too much in return, but I will use them all! Thanks Alexey!

Also from Melyus / Ercan from Turkey, a Merkur Sledgehammer Slant. Wow! This thing is HEAVY! It looks and feels like a sledgehammer! I shall enjoy punishing the whiskers with it!

 

Yeah, they're both Russian and made by "Kalina". Aftershave is made by "Svoboda".

Hey, buddy--there is wonderful shaving for you to do with the Everest, (little white tube) and Phyto Expert. Oh, the Svoboda balsam will make your skin to feeling like born again!

 

Yeah Jeff, that sledge is awesome. I still have Bill's....been thinking about holding it for ransom. It is wonderful. Some people can't stand them though so I hope you like it. Just watch the blade alignment. I noticed that (only when you aren't checking the alignment) that you'll end up with a little more exposure on one edge than the other. Other than that, its great.
