Have you ever picked up a razor and gone "Wow...." - that's the feeling I had yesterday when this mystery-brand razor arrived from a seller in Argentina. Opening the box it revealed the razor in beautiful condition (I love it when they look better than in the ad...and that I don't need to do any clean-up apart from basic sterilization!). So what razor is this? NO idea - but I decided to take a gamble on it for $35. The seller in Argentia knew very little about it apart from that the head is designed to be aggressive on one side - and mild on the other. The head has two sets of 'rings' that move freely around the rod they're attached to. I can only assume this was a design to make it glide comfortably along your face but I've never seen a design like this before. View from underneath the head where the only clue to its origin can be found - "Pat. No. A.a629[I think '8']9 The razor is your standard three-piece design and I really do like that handle as well. Here's the handle next to a Gillette NEW common bar handle for comparison. Even though they are rather similar in size the mystery-razor-handle appears to be about 1.5x heavier. Top of the baseplate: I guess this might be the 'aggressive side': ...and maybe the 'less-aggressive' side: Anyway, since I know absolutely nothing about this razor please let me know anything that might help me identify it. Will be really, really interesting to shave with.......
That one is really cool! I don't know where you come up with these razors, but you've been on a really good hot streak. Congrats!
Nooo idea...it could be 50 years old and it could be 5 months old as far as I know If the box is original to the razor I'm guessing it might be a few decades old.
With the way the coil is wrapped I wonder if it was done with the idea of making the Gillette Slide easier?
a razor on roller blades, wow. please tell me it was the worst shave ever. I'd hate to think there was another item out there that I want but can't get. seriously, pretty neat.
Assuming the spring/coil bar lends itself to performing like an open comb, that more exposed side may be wicked aggressive.
I'll post my shave findings here I promise - it really could go either way, hard to guess what it might be like as the design is rather unique
A member on another forum showed a razor he has that, made in the 20's, conceptually works the same way as this razor - having a coil around the safety bars. Apparently is a great shaver Presumably a company out of Chicago that came up with this base plate idea that people could buy and use with their Gillette razors.
