    The Night Before Shavemas

'Twas the night before Shavemas and all through the house,
Not a whisker was stirring, not even a mouse.
The razors were placed on the counter with care,
In hopes that the morning would find them laid bare.

The barbershop towels were hung on the rack,
In preparation for the great trimming attack.
While visions of smooth skin danced in their heads,
The men dreamt of cleanness, and planned their hot spreads.

When out on the bathroom, arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the mirror, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the cabinet and reached for the stash.

The glow of the sink and the tools all aglow,
Gave a luster of manhood in the morning’s soft flow.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But my favorite old razor, so trusty and dear.

With a steady grip, and a splash of old cream,
    I knew in a moment it wasn’t a dream.
More rapid than eagles, the blades they did glide,
As I whistled and shouted, “Come on, let’s ride!”

“Now, whiskers! Now, stubble! Now, tangles and fuzz!
On, patches! On, scruff! On, bristles and buzz!
To the top of the chin! To the tip of the nose!
Now shave away! Shave away! Smooth skin, here it goes!”

As dry skin that before the sharp blade cut and flew,
When they met with a lather, it was time to renew.
So up to the sink, the razor took flight,
And I trimmed and I shaped, till it felt just right.

And then, in a twinkling, I finished the chore,
I wiped down the mirror, and glanced at the floor.
I was dressed all in flannel, my face fresh and clean,
And my skin felt so smooth, I could hardly believe.

My beard was all tidy, my confidence grew,
The best kind of gift was the one that I knew.
As I relaxed back down, with the work all but done,
I smiled, knowing tomorrow would be just as fun.

I turned off the lights and looked back with a cheer,
"Merry Shaving to all, and to all a smooth year!"
