I saw a post on these last year, and have wanted one since. They were originally made and patented by George W. Korn of Little Valley, New York, Cattaraugus County. Here is the patent information. I found a folding version made by Cattaraugus Cutlery last year. It uses the same patent number, and the same guard as the fixed blade version made by Geo. W. Korn. Being has Mr. Korn was working for Cattaraugus and himself during the same timeframe, it isn’t surprising that several of his patents ended up under the Cattaraugus name. George Korn was a master grinder for his own cutlery, Cattaraugus, Case, and he made razors for Sears Roebuck as well. The fixed blade razor was the one I was truly after. It’s a full hollow double pinned to a black celloid handle. The look and feel of it in the hands is amazing. I found one a few weeks ago, mostly in a shave ready state, just needing a touch up. I spent a little time tonight on my hone with it, and am off to shave in a bit. Here are some pictures.
Just finished the shave. It does not shave like any other razor I have used, and I am including the pain sticks. (Feather AC Kamisori style, and the CJB handle.) Its very lightweight, and the curve to the handle affects the balance in a positive way. I am bouncing all over the place with razors this month, but will spend some time with this razor and two other Korns next month. I did three passes, and would call it a high grade DFS. Can't wait to use it again.
