There are a number of threads dedicated to specific items, so I thought why not start one for Gillette Adjustable (Toggle). Hard to come by, and considered by quite a few to be the Holy Grail of DE razors, the Toggle is nice to look at and shave with. I'd love to see the Toggles that are in the hands of TSD members. This is a 1958 D1.
Although I personally don't have any interest in owning one, I find them fascinating. It is a rather unique concept for razors. Sent via mobile - Chris
They are certainly nice looking and do shave well. I've had 4? In various conditions even had a cased set once. My last and final one recently traded. I'm glad to have owned them and am glad they went on to someone else.
I don't think many people have had 4! Do have good antique stores in your area? I've had 2 and kept 1...for now, but it might go to a new home sometime in the future.
No stuff in the shops around here. I was fighting with the others on eBay. Broke even on the turnaround. Thing is most of ones for sale have some kind of issue at least in my experience, won't adjust. Out of calibration, bent , man you name it. Found one that worked but after all that..... I don't know, there were just other razors that I liked better. Use it and love it!
Got the unboxed one first, then the boxed one came up about two months later. Don't see them too often in England; I'd be embarrassed to tell you what I had to pay to get them 8-(
Some nice razors being posted. Does anybody know how many of these were produced? I know the production periods, but not production numbers.
Less than a million, more than a thousand. The first year of production had serial numbers, and I believe the spread on those was several thousand.
I'd like to be able to join this thread some day but that's probably not going to happen. It's a shame that Gillette didn't make more of these. They really are a treat for the eyes.
