I was looking for some bulk olive oil based CP bath soap, and ran into the site thesoapguy(dot)com. Pricing seems good, but it looks like shipping is a flat rate of $11.50 until you get to $85 worth of product, then shipping is free. Not particularly conducive to someone wanting to just try it out. I looked for reviews, but he holds regular contests that are basically post something about my soaps on youtube, you could win $1000 worth of soap, so it is hard to tell what is a legitimate review, or what is just someone trying to get free soap.

Anyone have any experience with it? Worth giving a try? Thanks!

70 views and no response. I think I will give it a try and report back in case anyone else is interested.

In that case...I suggest you buy from a reputable dealer with fair prices!

After all...$1000 in soap products...what would you really do with that? Sounds like a cry for business IMO

I think he caters to wholesale markets, talks about starting your own business or selling the soap at farmers markets or things like that. I don't think I am really the target customer, but I tend to buy things in bulk. I figure I can report back with an honest review one way or another.

Giving away $1000 in soap is definately an interesting marketing idea though.

Well, shipping was really quick, so they have that going for them.
8 loafs at 22 oz each. They recommend cutting each loaf into 6 1 inch bars, but I will likely cut it a bit thicker.

I didn't get any Bay Rum, or the Citrus Basil, so I won't be able to give a review on that. I got "Vanilla Oatmeal," "White Tea Bamboo," "Summer Citrus," and "Almond Cookie." Almond Cookie has been the soap of the day each day since I found the site a week ago.

Sounds very interesting. Do you use them as is, or as a shave stick, or grate into a bowl? If you like, I will buy a hunk of summer citrus and white tea bamboo from you to spread your costs out...

I am just going to be using them as bath soaps. I have found that olive oil soaps don't dry my skin out so much, so I have been using them for the last couple years. The last seller I ordered from on ebay (toadstool soaps) appears to have gotten out of the business, so I was looking for something else.

Those are definitely some "bricks" of soap.

I often experiment in artisan bath soaps. If you have opportunity to post your impressions, I'd be interested in reading.

I will do that. I probably won't use one for a couple weeks though.

That's a lot of bath soap....how long do you estimate that will last you?

I may also be interested in a small chunk or two if you are interested in selling...

It really depends on how hard the soap is, and I haven't purchased this much at a time before, but I would guess it is a year and a half to two years worth of soap if just I am using it, but my wife is starting to see the benefits, so it could go a little quicker. I am not trying to sell it off, but if you want to try it I can send you a hunk. Just PM me your address.

Who buys two years worth of soap at one time from a soap dealer they have never used or tried their products out before?

I was going to say something, but I politely waited for someone else to chime in....

:taunt002 This guy! ;) I know it doesn't really make much sense, but getting that much soap for $50 shipped appeals to me.

I decided to swap out my soap, so I have a few days in with Almond Cookie now.
The thing that stands out most to me is how strong the scent is. I would go so far to say it is a bit overwhelming. The other scents don't seem quite as strong. I love the White Tea Bamboo scent. The only way I have come up with to describe the scent is "fresh." It felt a bit tacky after cutting it. I don't know if that means it needs some cure time or what. I cut a loaf of each scent to let it cure a bit. Right now it isn't real hard, so it is going faster than I am used to, hoping a little cure time will help with that. It has good lather. That is all I can say for first impressions, but I will add more as I go through some more.

    Says 75 was free shipping?

I thought it was $85. I paid $11 for shipping, I figured I would get my money's worth. Before shipping, the 11 lbs of soap were $38.92. I couldn't bring myself to spend $75.

Actually now I am seeing $80 for free shipping.
