Hi. some of you guys might have seen my other post regarding my horrible new brush. I am thinking of re-knoting it. Neolithium contributed a kind suggestion that i get the knots from this site: http://www.thegoldennib.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=9 I am looking for a knot with soft touch on the face at a budget price. What should I get? (if you have a cheap deal of a complete brush, i could consider getting it too.)
Well the golden nib has good descriptions of all their knots on the site. If you are looking for a great brush that wont break the bank. I would suggest Vintageblades. Their 2 band badger is fantastic IMHO. I have the 24 mm knot and the bristles when wet are very soft. They feel like they are made of gel. I have read other people who purchased this brush (it comes in several different knot sizes) and have had 2 band brushes from different high dollar name brands. And the quality and feel of the Vintage blades brush is right there with them and in some cases better than the high dollar brushes. You can see them here...http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vshop/xcart/home.php?cat=240 From $29.99-$37.49 USD. You really cant go wrong for a 2 band. I have had my brush since November 2012 and have only lost maybe 3-4 hairs from the knot. If your looking for a soft brush that has great backbone and flow through and is a soap killing lathering machine, this is the brush and at a budget price. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them for you. If you want to read a extensive thread about these brushes and who could blame you if you did. There is a 7 page thread across the street at B&B with reviews (mine included) it's very informative you can read it here...http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...-Player-in-the-Brush-Biz-Vintage-Blades-Brand Hope this helps.
I speak fluent Acquisition Disorder, perhaps I can help. What I think he is saying is that you should do both.
TGN ships world wide I think. I got a grade A 24mm Silvertip for $33 for a handle Oscar11 pif'd me. They do have more affordable knots and I have never heard anything bad about them.
+1 on Whipped Dog. Value for money is outstanding and those Firehouse Potter handles look gorgeous. TGN are also great - I've had a number of knots from them and the service is fantastic from the US to GB as are the quality of the knots. Their two-band is particularly good value. A mate got two WD silvertips and is delighted with both.
hey. no worries man. It's the common practice here anyway. do you have the link to the brushes you mentioned? I was dazzled by all the brushes. Sorta got confuse there. I really wanna see which brushes you were talking about by getting the links from you.
Here's the link for the Whipped Dog ones which have a great reputation: And here's the finest 2 band knots from TGN Scroll down for the 2 band knots. I had a butterscotch Rooney re-knotted with a 24mm finest in a bulb shape. A great knot but I sold the brush as I was hard up at the time. That 24mm 2 band fan shaped knot looks a real beaut and I'll be ordering one come payday. Another option is to contact Mühle and order one of their much vaunted v2 Silvertip Fibre artificial knots. They're actually thought to be better than real badger hair by some and they dry extremely quickly. They will sell the knots separately as I emailed them to ask and they were very forthcoming and helpful. Prices weren't bad either.
My links don't seem to work? Why can't I post links? Why is the 'link' button greyed out? Never mind, just copy and paste the url's into your web browser. Best wishes.
Much obliged, Weeper Warrior! What a dozy Mary I am..... Fixed now though. This forum has a different way of doing things but I reckon its better although it does catch me out from time to time.
