This is my Dog, Kirby! He's a basset hound born on March 19th 2011. I've had him since June of this year, boy has he grown like a weed!

We all love our dogs, so I figured I'd share mine with you. Feel free to post picture of your own dogs, I'd love to see them!

I wish my pictures were better, but getting a six month old puppy to pose is quite a challenge impossible. I think I managed a couple of okay ones!

:) Howdy! A beautiful dog! Basset Hounds are my favorite. I've had 2 so far. They can get overweight fast so be aware since it can hurt their back. They sleep a lot; however, they wake up really fast if you open the pantry door where the dog biscuits are kept. Best of luck! Enjoy your new friend! Always, Gene

Maybe you're the one to ask then. When the heck do they calm down? I'm aware he's in his puppy terrible twos right now, but I'm scared as to how long it will last!

Very cute pup. I asked the guy that sits next to me at work as he is on his third Basset hound. He told me that they calm down pretty quickly. Between 9 months and a year Kirby should be pretty chill. It's not like Jack Russel that is on super high speed crazy until they keel over dead of a heart attack at age 15.

He's just a canine tornado, which is why we take OUTSIDE pictures. That is good to know, thanks for asking for me!

Nice pics! I love dogs. We had a sheltie a while back. We'll have another once my wife or I can be home more often. I don't believe in keeping a dog around the house if there's no one else around the house.

He's a handsome devil! We have owned 4 Basset hounds in the past. 2 female 2 male. The females are a lot smarter than the males are in our experience, and much calmer. Calming down is what has been said, in about 9 mos. to a year. By then they will be quite lazy and beginning to look like a bag that a dog came in. They make good pets but suffer from ear problems easier than other breeds, especially if the are outside dogs. We had a constant battle with fleas and ear mites in the ears. The boys definitely drool MUCH more than the females do( again in our experience). Enjoy Kirby, he will make a good pet and friend.

I was surprised at how much color variation there is in the basset hound breed. It was hard early on to take pictures of my dog where he didn't look like a dachshund, of course, now he's starting to get huge.

I've never been around one but have always admired them. The rumor has it that they are a dog that has odor problems, that stale dog smell, is there any truth to that or will regular ear care and baths keep the stink at bay?

In my experience, if you have a dog that is allowed inside, then regular bathing will take care of any odor. The female that we had never had any odor problem. The males however, stunk to high heavens, but they were not allowed indoors because of their drooling. If they get an ear infection, then the stink magnifies, obviously. I believe if you had a single Basset, the barking would be kept down to an acceptable level. We always had more than one dog at a time. The barking and howling was a competition. That will drive you nuts! If I had it to do all over again, I would stay with one female(neutered) and treat her like a family member, allowing her to be an inside dog. Bassets are notoriously known to be difficult to train. I still remember the ones we had with a fondness, despite all of their annoyances.

I've bathed him once since I've gotten him, I clean his ears once a week with stuff I got from the vet, and I haven't had any odor issues.

We're getting him fixed soon, and you're not kidding about difficult to train. It's not that their dumb, so much as you have to make it worth their while.

My dear, wonderful puppy just trashed a feather pillow.

Do you have any idea how many feathers are in a feather pillow?

Me Neither, but it's a lot.......enough to blanket every surface in a 15x15 room!

I guess I should have taken picture, but you know....I was mad, and cleaning it up.

    I'm over it now.

Great looking Basset. I have had the honor of two Bassets adopting me in my life. There is no better dog then a Basset. No sweeter music then there pity howl.
