I'm confused, folks. WCS is selling a "Titanium" razor made of Stainless Steel. Huh? And the price, $30, is too cheap for it to be made of either material. Barnum was right!
They use the word titanium as they please. An example: https://www.westcoastshaving.com/pr...azor-handles-blue?_pos=4&_sid=2ee2fd1a2&_ss=r "West Coast Shaving is at it again. We're launching another set of safety razors sure to turn heads. Check out our newest collection - Titanium Collection." "This stainless-steel grooming requisite undergoes an anodizing process to create a virtually indestructible finish." So the combination of them being stainless steel and them being anodized makes them titanium. Not to be confused with the actual metal that is used for shaving implements, titanium.
My assumption was that "Titanium" was their name for that particular shade of blue. Kind of like "Wedgewood" for a shade of blue frequently used in ceramics without a trace of wood.
Come on, guys, whatever their reason, it's misleading and false advertising. In this industry, when people see a "Titanium" razor, they expect a titanium razor. Psst! Wanna buy my "24k gold" chain? (Hint: it's really made of zamak, but I prefer to call it "24k gold.") Next, WCS will be selling them on AliExpress!!! Review: "I thought I buy Titanium razor. I wait 3 months. I get not Titanium razor."
They actually have "Collections". They have black handles that are the Midnight Collection and bronze looking ones are the Vintage collection. The silvery ones are the Classic collection.
BTW, the ire is not against you guys (of course), but against WCS. My confusions is why a vendor would try to mislead, and actually get away with it -- so far. Although if you read the description you will quickly find out that it is not made of Titanium. And it must be the lowest-grade stainless steel, and manufactured through the cheapest possible process -- ot machined, not MIMed -- for that price.
Haha...what a timely topic. Count me as one of those that didn't read down in the description to see the "titanium collection" is just a reference to the anodized color applied, not the handle material, which is stainless steel. I don't like extremely heavy handles. In my hands, such handles reduce handling agility. I love titanium, hollowed brass, or even hollowed stainless steel if such handles were widely available. The massive 84g weight of this handle just didn't work for me, but I loved the handle design and grip. So I set about to remedy this. Using a series of carbide steel bits, largest for the base of the handle and going smaller as I progressed, I was able to hollow at least 2/3rds of the handle, reducing its weight from 84g down to 59g, a significant 25g reduction. Now this handle feels exactly as I want it. I wish more makers would consider hollow handle options for their stainless steel products. I would pay the additional cost for sure.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Live and learn! BTW, I bought that handle from Maggard's about 3 years ago. Maggard himself says it is his design, and now other people have stolen it. I happen to like the handle. YMMV.
