See link from Shavemac http://www.shavemac.com/products/Experts/Shaving-Brush-EXPERTS-SELECT.html Check IF I've got this correct that looks like a Duke 3 Best 2-band. Shape: 412 Color: Ivory Imitation Knot Shape: Bulb Shape Quality and Size: 23 mm Silvertip 2-Band OR 23 mm Sivertip D01 2-Band ???????? Hair length ( Loft): 46 mm Shavemac logo: Logo on outside Readable when: Brush stands Cheers
I've already got a Simpsons Duke 3 Best Badger 2-Band Brush, I just like to have a Custom made Shavemac brush something a little different in my brush collection that's all
If you go with the D01 hair, put that loft as high as it will go. I have a 23mm set at 52, and it's the most scrubby, splay-resistant brush I own. Fantastic hair, but not my go to brush, you understand? This is coming from a person who likes scrubby Two-Band badger.
I have a D01 3 band 23mm with a 48mm loft and I would have to agree. It's the most scrubby brush I own. If you go with D01 2 band it will be even more so. The 2 band silver tip seems to be the favored choice among many Shavemac users.
Yep. The D01 knots were designed to cater to a very small niche group amongst wet shavers. Either you love the knot or hate it. It's very polarizing that way. The reason they cost so much is because they can only be made from really long hairs, and that length of hair is rare, ergo, expensive.
I agree. Even given that, it is my understanding that the D01 2 band is big step up from even the D01 3 band. If you check different forum BST threads you will see many D01 2 and 3 band brushes up for sale. My best friend, Wade, thought he wanted a D01 2 band and after using my D01 3 band one time, he quickly changed his mind and is going to get a 2 band Silvertip.
A Two-Band D01 is like lathering with something that feels remarkably like a giant fuzzy pencil eraser. Very little flow through, absolutely destroys triple milled soaps though.
In this case I'll stick with the Silvertip 2-Band instead of a D01 2-Band and the cost turn out to be 144,70 EUR
The handle shape 412 is very different to the handle used on a Duke 3 and Shavemac do not make stock handles that approximate the Duke series handle. It might be worth sending Bernd an email to see if he can replicate a Duke 3 handle and help you choose the correct loft that will make the brush work in the way that you want it to.
Or get one of our great brushmakers to build you an awesome custom handle that approximates the Duke, and put a Shavemac knot in it. Then you've got a one of a kind that's exactly what you want.
