I've been looking for a good tobacco leaf scent in an AS. I have Tabac and I nearly bought the Alt-Innsbruck, but didn't because the bottle is pretty small at only 100ml/3.4 oz. I also see that Vitos has a tobacco AS scent, but I don't recall hearing reviews of it. Anybody have suggestions or input?
I'm waiting on a bottle of the Alt-Innsbruck,I'll let you know what I think of it,it does come highly recommended, plus it has menthol.Tabac I haven't tried yet, that's next on my list.
Thanks. I like Tabac, but it is one of those polarizing scents, I believe. I also have the Tabac balm and the two together make a very good combo. I had the AI in my basket and was ready to hit "Buy Now", and remembered that 100ml isn't much. If I could get it in 400ml, now that would be nice, but would probably be > $100/bottle! I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they didn't like it. Let us know what you think.
Same here, I have balked at the price of Alt-nnsbruch with the feeling I would enjoy it about the same as my other inexpensive aftershaves I have. BUT we never use shaving products as fast as we think we do. You probably won't use Alt daily so the bottle will last . I have had some bottles of nice aftershaves for 5 years and have not even used half. In fact a bottle of Speick aftershave I had so long it turned on me , and that one I like.If you do use Alt daily then you will buy several and the money spent won't be a concern. I think the only thing you have to do is get samples. If you are placing an order with a vendor just request a sample of Alt or Vitos. As an example of whats possible some years back I asked for a specific cologne sample from Classic Shaving . They said " we don't have a prepared sample but could do the cotton ball in a baggie" .
Good point about frequency of use and a great idea about getting a sample. I've gotten a sample or two from Gary's sample shop in the past. Thanks, H.
I have Tabac and can't say it reminds me of tobacco, but that could just be me. Crude experimenter that I am, I once soaked some nice pipe tobacco (say, 2-3 tbsp.) in leather-type a/s. The result was quite nice, I still use it occasionally.
I agree, while I really like Tabac, I don't get the tobacco scent from it much. Very creative with the pipe tobacco. I live in an area of the country where tobacco farming is/used to be big business. I can still remember the smell of walking into my grandfather's barn where he had tobacco leaves hanging to dry. I guess I'm trying to get back to my childhood in a strange way.
Randy,my bottle of Alt-Innsbruck came in this afternoon.I took a whiff out of the bottle and wow it smells wonderful. To me it has almost a almond scent,if I didn't use Clubman today I would have done a dry run as a cologne.I'll try it out tomorrow without my usual 444 treatment and post what I think.
After initial application of a decent dose of Alt Innsbruck you do get that faint, high end cigar wrapper scent, followed by the sweeter tobacco flower and its dries down to a mild scent. As for its actual aftershave/cologne qualities its pretty meh, but the scent is great, I wore it out on a first date and didn't turn the lady away, so it must be good!
Yep except for the menthol blast which is up there. Not a alcolado or The Rub type, but more than the Floids and Proraso. The menthol lasted a long time too,at least on me. I didn't use any menthol products today so the menthol in Alt-Innsbruck is pretty rightious. As for the scent Sodapopjones is correct,it's more of a tobacco flower, reminds me almost of almonds.SWMBO loves the scent, that's all the endorsement I need
