From our friends at Tom's of Maine.... Dear Mike, Thank you for contacting us! Unfortunately it is true that we are discontinuing our shaving cream line. Due to the rising cost of some of the ingredients it is becoming too costly to produce without a price increase beyond what consumers would be willing to pay. I'm sorry! Sincerely, Tina Payeur Consumer Dialogue & Services Representative www.tomsofmaine.com 800-775-2388
From what I've read it got very mixed reviews anyway. I mean of course that's true of all products but this one seemed to get more average to below ratings than others I've seen. I almost picked up a tube at Whole Foods one day and then just said, meh...all based on the reviews I've read. However if you used and loved this stuff then it sucks they're saying farewell. Maybe try Omega or KMF instead.
Oh dear God... Why does it always seem to happen that once you find a product you like, they discontinue it? I've been using Tom's of Maine Mint for two months now, and I really like how cooling it is and how thick a lather it makes. Sheesh... I'm going to have to go and buy like 3-4 tubes, now, while I still can.
When you've used up all the mint, get over to B&BW and buy some CO Bigelow (proraso) as a substitute. That'll give you the thick lather and cool blast.
I am a Kiss my Face fan more than Tom's but still, that is not happy news. I do use Tom's for my toothpaste.
Ordered 5 tubes....stuff is incredible! Anyone need any let me know! Trust me......will only charge cost....not the BS coates price!
I really like TOM's but I'm going to give KMF a try. It looks like KMF has many of the good doodads in it that TOM's has and it costs a little less. KMF also gets great reviews on this board and others.
For such a cheap and really nondescript looking cream it performs remarkably well. Looks like a hand lotion but lathers up thick and shaves slick. The only drawback is no matter what flavor you get the scents are mild and short lived. Not a big deal really but it kind of makes you wonder why they bothered with flavors at all. Should just call it unscented and be done with it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Works well in superlathers too.
I found a big tub of KMF on sale at a local grocery store ($3.50) so I took a chance and bought it. I uberlathered it with Cade and got a wonderful shave. I usually get mediocre results with Cade, so I think this KMF really was a huge help. I'm going to try it again tomorrow with another soap. So far, so good.
When you guys run out of this crap, let me know. My "eccentric" son went out and bought TWO CASES of this shaving abomination.
I have been using Tom's for a few years and decided to try Kiss My Face anf found it to be a poor substitute. I have since tried Molle brushless (now made by Lucky Tiger) and found it to be better than Tom's. YMMV I still might pick up more Tom's thru Amazon, though. Nathan
Try it on it's own once just for fun. I was pretty much using it in superlathers too. Then one day the urge struck me and I shaved it solo. I'm telling you all it shaved just fine. It produced a thick and slick lather good enough for several passes. I'm not going to claim this is a go to cream for me because it isn't. However KMF has a winner here IMO. btw I have zero interest in anything brushless. What's the point???
Well Shep, what if one of your hands was out of commission? Would you put suction cups on the bottom of your shave bowl? How would you add water? What if you lathered so hard it threw the bowl on the ground? JK! I own 1 brushless cream-gel, Aveda Rosemary Mint....the stuff is incredible! as it should be!
