Trac II knockoff brands?

For those of you who use the Trac II system occasionally, what are the best twin-cartridge brands to use with it?

I know that the store-brands are either Dorco or Personna. But how do they compare to the Gillette Trac II refills?

I search out old Gillette Trac II blades, the early ones without the lube strip. They seem to work the best.

Still haven't tried my Gillette Trac II adjustable cartridges yet.

I was looking for an April 1st date on the adjustable.

I'm fascinated by the Trac II adjustable cartridges, something from a more civilized time, or just hype?

I've only used the Dorco (and not the original), so I have nothing to compare to except the old Gillette 2-blade disposables that I used for a time back in my college days. My only gripe with the Dorco (using it with the Dorco handle) is that the cart pops off the handle easily when you drop or bump the razor with some force. There's no problem with this while shaving, however. The cart is also a bit of nudge to get seated on the handle.

What did the adjustable feature adjust? Head angle?

    Hah. Nope, they were real.
They were like mayflies. They were only available for a year or two. Schick and Wilkinson Sword also had adjustable Trac II compatible cartridges.
Aggressiveness. They had a setting for light, medium, and heavy.

Dorco's are fine but I got the chance to use recent vintage Gillette carts and they were a hair better, so to speak. Not good enough to warrant paying full price, though, not by a long shot. My guess is it's between name brand and Dorco for current production, but I could be wrong on that.

Once upon a time, Wilkinson Sword made an excellent cart for the T-II, so I'm told, and I believe it.

I've read that the handle for the Bump Fighter razor by Personna will also fit Trac II cartridges and knockoffs that use the Trac II mounting"rails". The same source said that the handle was extremely nice -- well balanced and hefty.

Bump Fighter is a system of blades with "guards" over the blade that keep it from cutting too close -- this addresses the problem of ingrown hairs for people with very curly hair. It appears to be a single blade cartridge razor -- anybody tried these?

The blade looks like the Feather Artist club PRO-GUARD single edge blades -- sheathed in a matrix that keeps the edge from cutting too close.

The BF handle is very nice...matte rubber finish and surprisingly nice substantial heft. The carts are too mild (on purpose) for me.

The "Made in Israel" ones are very good for me. Stay away from Dorco.

They used to be available at Walmart until about three years ago. I found them to be okay. Not great, mind you, but not bad either. I imagine the vintage ones were probably better.

They were. There is a huge difference between the pre-1990 cartridges and the modern ones.

My preference for the pre-lube strip Gillette TRAC II cartridges would seem to bear that out as well.
