Travel Cases?

Wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for a vintage Gillette?
Obviously I don;t have the original box, but want a way to stow it for trips.
Also, what do you guys do with mugs, soaps, etc?

Please clarify your question. Do mean a case to put your razor / gear in while traveling? Or do you mean what to do about shaving in case of traveling? If you are looking for a razor case, you could use a plastic bar soap tub. I have the plastic clamshell case that came with my Braun electric razor that holds a DE nicely.

As for soaps, mugs etc...a lot of us use the shave sticks when traveling, or face lather with a tube of cream, thus eliminating the need for mugs. Brush stowage can be an issue, but I have a small badger from Art of Shaving that drops into a prescription bottle very nicely. Large prescription bottles are good for shave sticks too.

Shoebox shaving sells a plastic case that also holds a box or two of blades for 2$. I don't have one but they look like they would work.

    When packing...

Razor - wrapped in a handkerchief and put in toiletry bag

Blades - Dorco ST-301s come in a plastic case. They're safe there. Into the bag

Brush - appropriately sized pill bottle with vent holes drilled in top and bottom, put in toiletry bag

Soap - more than likely it will be in it's own glass bowl in a zip-loc bag, as that's how I store them at home. Wrapped in a T-shirt and put in the suit case

Lather bowl - yes, I have taken mine on trips. Wrapped in a T-shirt and in the suit case, making sure it is as close to the center of the case as possible.

Mind you, I've only made trips in my car. I don't have to worry about my suit case being tossed around or put in the bottom of a cargo hold with a ton of other baggage on top. I've yet to fly with my shave gear. I'm not sure yet just how much I would take or how I would stow it if and/or when I do fly.

Soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, pit stick, aftershave - all travel size bottles and fit into toiletry bag.

Sounds good. I like the pill bottle idea.... I just need to find one.
I have a road trip in a week. I just picked up my razor the other day, so I am new to shave soap and everything. Like to take it along with me.

I notices a website has a cool travel case you could buy for their razor. It was a box with what looked to be a cutout shape of the razor and a place for blades. Almost looked like it was wood. Quite a nice display and travel piece.

Most pharmacies will give one to you for free.

Tupperware has, or at least used to have, a set of little bowls about 2 inches tall and just big around enough to hold a puck of soap, with a neat-o little lid that seals airtight. I hijacked a couple of these from the kitchen, and that's how my soap travels with me.

Try the Tupperware Web site. Be aware, however, that Tupperware is sometimes very proud of their products.

In a good old fasioned Dopp kit. I used to use a zipper top leather brush container I picked up some where. Big enough for a 4-5 inch brush. I later got a travel brush with it's own container from Crabtree. As for a mug, If I went with one I just bagged it - usually my Ol Spice shorty. If it was a short trip, I could get away with a bar of Dove. I use shaving sticks now as it is the travel answer. Razor is a real issue. Got to check it or ditch the blades. 40 yrs ago i just removed the blade, thru the Gillette in the kit and went. Speeds are not very delicate.

Now-a-days, I use a vintage British travel kit.

  9. I picked up a canvas Dopp bag at Wal Mart for five bucks. I've had it for years now. Just toss my beater single ring old type in with a shave stick and body shop synthetic brush and I'm good to go. have a little acrylic mirror too in case I have to shave without a proper mirror. Toss that in your carry on and your set to fly. A small tube of godrej is what I take if I don't want my shave stick. I palm lather cream so it's all good.
Blades you just toss in a checked bag. Target also sells 3oz spray bottles which are perfect to pour your favorite cheap aftershave into. Just spritz some on your face and rub it in after your shave. My dad works for US Airways and so we're always looking for the most conveniant solution to travel with shave supplies. I love the ideas from these threads.

Actually, according to the TSA Permitted/Prohibited list here:
    http://www.seatguru.com/articles/tsa_prohibited_items.php

Safety razors are allowed in carry on baggage. Scroll down to the "Personal Items" section, and you'll see "Safety razors, including disposable razors" noted as being allowed in both carry on and checked bags.

Go down farther, and you'll find under "Sharp Objects" (emphasis mine):
Razor-Type Blades, such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors

That would say to me that double-edge safety razors are permitted on a plane. Anyone have experience to confirm this?

Both the "razor blades not in a cartridge" and "excluding safety razors" parts apply. Safety razors are allowed in carry-on baggage, but not double edge blades. This applies even for a blade in a DE razor, as the blade is not in a cartridge. Of course, if a TSA inspector disagrees and one puts up an argument, the outcome is likely to be iffy at best.

I use a Pretty Neat brand razor case. It is made out of plastic, and so does not mar the razor's finish. There is enough extra room in the case for a small tube of shaving cream or a pack of blades.

  13. For the TSA question. Blades are not allowed, but in all my flying experience I have yet to lose a blade or a razor. I forgot that I had a spare blade in my dopp bag when I went back to France this summer. The TSA agent flagged it on the screen. However had absolutely no idea what he was looking for IRL. My attempts to help were ignored and he searched my other bag and did an explosives check on my alarm clock >.>

    In my traveling,
No blades (DE&SE). Razor will pass but expect to get called to the side for a look-see. You either get to explain what a DE is to a kid or, get to hear how his/her dad or grand dad had one of those. I generally carry on the kit as things do disappear from checked bags. If they want to swipe my blades then so be it. Walgreens is everywhere.
