Now, I've asked elsewhere about the Merkur trimmer and seem to get almost purely negative remarks. The best I got was "meh". This is the only tool I've seen made for trimming or edging goatees and other facial hair. My current razor, and I imagine most of them, just simply isn't designed to do this. The top of the head has too much curvature, and I cannot see that exactly where the blade will touch. I can get by ok, but I had a much easier time keeping edges straight, in the right place/at the right level, with my Quattro. I've got things good enough, and have learned to live with a goatee that's line may be a bit wavy, and sideburns that maybe aren't quite the same length. I'd really like to be able to edge them as precisely as before without going back to cartridges. What do you guys use or do? Is there a special tool or do you have a technique which allows you to get at things better?
get a hold of a Injector of some short. They are close to a cart as you can get and still have a real razor. YMMV as usual.
The razor and 'important, but so is' even more' to use a good blade and your technique. Which we can not 'buy, but you have to learn after shaving shaving ....
Tell you what, I have a Merkur Trimmer I'll send your way to try out, along with the blades for it. Then you can decide if you're with the majority who say it's not really worth it, or if you just can't live without one. If you like it, keep it. If not, send it back and I'll loan it out to the next person who has the same questions you do. Send me a PM with your address.
I have a goatee and sideburns. On my tech and super speed I just get the razor edge close and it has kept everything inline and close. My sideburns have gotten a little thinner though
