I'm finally going to purchase Truefitt & Hill after so long after hearing about this product a several years ago. Which scent should I purchase between these four? Grafton Trafalgar 1805 West Indian Limes
I have heard amazing things about the 1805. However never heard much of a bad review on the other scents. I believe that they offer sampler packs, I would say order one of those before you commit to one. You might even find that you prefer shaving with some other product. I believe the sampler was 10 or 15 dollars. http://www.truefittandhill.com/items_37.html there is the link just the creams are 10 dollars. You can also even get one with a brush for $35. They also have it with cologne if you want to try those as well.
I use the 1805 cream and aftershave balm. It smells incredible. The only scent T&H makes that I like more is Spanish Leather but they don't have that in a shave cream.yet.
I was fortunate to be able to go into a store in a Sacramento mall where I could sniff 'em all. After all I'd heard about the 1805, I was expecting it to be the one that grabbed me. However, it was a rather mild scent compared to some of the others. My favorite was the Grafton which had a sandalwood type scent, but seeing as I already own AOS Sandalwood cream, I chose the West Indian Limes - something completely different. If they had had the samples, I'm sure I would have bought them. I'd like to try out all the varieties in a full shave experience rather than just sniffing the creams.
The sample pack is a great option, relatively inexpensive for all the products you receive. Test them all yourself that's what I did.
What store in Sac has these? My loving girlfriend and myself are both from around there and are back in town once or twice a year.
Let me describe them a bit as I don't think a simple favorite is appropriate given T&H scent quality. Grafton - A balanced, complex cologne scent with the only obvious notes being woods and citrus. More natural and less sweet than typical American fragrances. Trafalgar - A strong, musky, complex cologne scent that screams "old world" and "money". While my personal least favorite of the bunch, I can't deny it's a high quality fragrance. 1805 - A more classic take on modern marine scents. Great woods that aren't too strong, definite citrus notes that are clean and crisp, and nice florals that aren't too sweet. Similar to scents like CK Eternity or Aqua Di Gio, but IMHO much better. I personally think the scent works better in the cologne, but not a bad cream by any means. West Indian Limes - It definitely is dominated by a natural lime scent. The West Indian lime is sweeter than the biting Sicilian limes but not nearly as sweet as Key limes. On top of the lime it has some light spice (several notes, but cinnamon and cardamom are the two I can pick up) notes that give the scent a little body. For the cream, this would be my personal pick.
The Grafton scent is amazing but doesnt give that good of a shave like 1805. Between the two I would go with 1805.
I suggest ordering the sample pack for ten dollars. You can try all of those scents listed above including rose, lavender and almond. It's a great way to try many scents. I enjoyed the lime scent and the 1805. Try it and you'll be able to get a feel for what you like. Let us know what you decide to do. It's better than spending $32 for one scent. Best Jerry
I would go with either 1805 or Trafalgar. Both are incredible. This is just from a ladies point of view though.
+1 on the sample pak. You get 14 little pouches that are good for 2-4 shaves each, depending on your finesse, almost for free. The pak is described here: http://www.truefittandhill.co.uk/viewproducts.php?selection=Sample Packs&id=308 I've tried all the samples except the Grafton, coming up next week. As far as the creams are concerned, there is some difference in performance among the fragrances, but they all perform very well in lathering, lubrication and (a property we don't hear much about) ease of rinsing. They're in the same performance quality category as Nancy Boy, but the fragrances are more interesting. Someday, I'll do a comparison among NB, T&H and maybe also throw in Gentlemens Refinery, another similar product. The pre-shave oil is fine if you like that sort of thing. For me, it smells nice and feels good going on, but it doesn't change the shave much. All the AS balms in the pak that I've tried are fabulous in every way. Here, the nod will go to the one that smells best to you and your very closest friend(s). No one else will notice. If you're trying T&H, don't just use the cream. Pay no attention to what the lawyer Jackie Chiles told Kramer. Use the balm. FWIW, so far I like the Ultimate Comfort (very light fragrance) and the WI Limes. Some of the others (Rose and 1805) are too floral for my taste. You're going to enjoy this.
It's interesting that they don't all shave the same. Having used the 'Limes' for a while now, I can report that it gives excellent shaves.
Personally, I found the ASBs to be a bit greasy. It didn't matter to me if I applied lightly on dry skin, or even more lightly on a slightly dampened face. When I tried the sample pack and the ASBs, it was winter in Iowa, so very, very dry out. I can only imagine the feel now in the summer time... Personally, I'd rate them as about the heaviest/oiliest ASB I've ever tried. (That may be a *good* thing for some, but not for me.) I also didn't find the ASB to be overly soothing, just moisturizing. I get a lot more soothing effect from L'Occitane ASB, and even more from Pre de Provence, along with good moisturizing. I loved the scents of all of the samples (I didn't get any rose with my pack) and ended up surprising myself and getting a jar of the lime SC. (Which I subsequently gave to a friend a month later who doesn't care that it contains parabens.)
i only have the trafalgar. i am very happy w/ the scent.after reading this thread i think i need to get a sampler pack myself.
