Trying to catalog my razors

Trying to identify my some razors. None have any date codes. The 1st two have same handle but very different heads. The 3rd is a Tech....not in pic Gillette with diamond embossed on cap; 'Patent #s on package ' stamped on other side of plate. The 4th has common bar handle that has very loose threads-when tightened, it skews to one side , it does not grab the bar on both sides of plate. Plating not great....could be a throw away.

    Thanks for any help

The top one is an old type on a tech bar handle, the second is a post war tech with bar handle, third is a post war tech with a normal tech handle. Those two techs are late 40's early 50's. The bottom razor appears to be a Gillette NEW short comb. Have you tried the other handles on that razor?

The razor you mentioned, but didn't show is a late 60's early 70's tech with the debossed logo.

I thought all razors pre 1929 had serial #s and old type was made till 1929 (meaning it should have ser #.....maybe handle was changed?). Was it just probably a leftover pushed out after'29?

Then I thought all razors after 1939 had date codes. except when they don't?

Thats why I had trouble identifying these

    I believe S/N ended 1920 or so, not 1929.

Date codes on the razors started in the 3rd quarter of 1950 (V-3). There were date codes before that, but they were on the blades, not the razor, so unless you snag a NOS set, you're not going to find that info.

The Valencia is an amazing razor. Glad you were able to find one. They are much easier to find than an open comb Merkur/Abercrombie & Fitch slant.

I'm glad that Fatip got theirs in production to open the world of open comb slants to all shavers.

Ryan, you're a bad person. Santa and I got everything on my wish list..........now I have to hunt down and get this Mercur/Abercrombie.

I've really only been looking at vintage razors, but I got weak and just received a Razorock Superslant (L3) The say they'll be coming out with an open comb plate for it in about 4 months. (with a grain of salt, but their time projection on the Superslant was good)

It's mostly the handle. I could replace the top ferrule on the handle but there is alot of plate loss on the cap. Now that I know it is a New Short comb (I have a New long comb) I don't think its anything special. For now anyway, I'm gonna toss it in my parts bin

I've seen 2 in 15 years. The one sold for $500+ 15 years ago, the other was $900+ about 3 years ago.

    Good luck.

What is the best way to date a Gillette "New" long comb razor?
